It’s a good point but I don’t see why any club will be signing anybody for the foreseeable future. Finish this season, whatever, when does the next one start and why would anyone be making signings when they don’t know what’s going to happen after that?

A Bees fan writes:
1. Brentford have not actually signed anyone - indeed couldn't until 1st June even if they wanted - so talk of a "transfer ban" at this stage is silly; 2. According to SKY Sports: "Preston North End have furloughed a 'very small number of staff'... ... there is no indication on whether the remaining 20% of the furloughed staff's wages will be paid by Preston or not." 3. Neil seems to think it is his mission to perpetuate the stereotype of a sour-faced Scottish prick of the type found scrounging drink from pensioners in the Clansman Pub from 'Still Game'.
He can come back to the topic when BFC actually sign anyone while staff are on furlough.
In the meantime he should STFU.

They’ve not actually answered his point though have they Why should clubs like Brentford and Leeds etc etc be able to sign players when they’ve used government money to help them out whereas clubs like Preston and indeed Stoke haven’t used that option and continued to use the clubs coffers They are in actual fact saying they haven’t got enough money to keep going so where will they get the cash from for any signings wether it’s July 1st or not? You can’t have it both ways......FFP will be tested with this

If not, i'm under no shadow of doubt that we're heading for a points deduction and quite a significant one.

I think he is right.
In addition, the punishments for Prem clubs furloughing staff should be severe.

i think any premier league club that has furloughed its staff should not be allowed to buy anyone for at least the next 2 seasons,

What he is claiming is way too Black & White when the truth will be much greyer than that.
MAYBE Leeds are still fucked so they need to sell a top player for 10 million. If they do that, arent they allowed to use that money to replace the player for someone cheaper?
To say that wage deferrals go directly into a transfer war chest is way too simple.
N.B. You could say something similar about relegation wage decreases. Stoke lowered players wages by 40% when relegated to lower the cost and balance the decrease in revenue. Surely this is the same kind of thing - Clubs are losing revenues and so are trying to lower costs. It just makes business sense.
I am honestly surprised that more clubs are not trying to cut or defer wages across the football league. In ALL other businesses this is currently happening. My own business has seen a hire freeze, wage freeze etc. Next step will be partial furloughing and sending people home. Its either that or dont survive.

Well if SKY Sports are right about PNE also furloughing some of their employees, then they should face a transfer ban as well.

Don't get me wrong I'm in no way trying to belittle the measures they've taken don't think I am as they've been superb, but they are in business after all and it certainly would be a good outcome for us......

I don't disagree with that.Tony Scholes obviously had issues with the FFP at the recent meeting and was obvious from reading between the lines that the club was actively looking for changes to be made. With no match-day income and the knock on effects from no games How can the FA implement FFP against clubs now, especially against a club who are covering losses like ourselves? I also think at the same time, being cynical that Alex Neill may have an agenda also, possibly because I find the the most unlikeable manager in the league of course.

Despite his record with Preston Nob Enders I was delighted when we got MON instead of him.
