Yeah it would have been different - we'd be bankrupt. Gouranga.

Harry would have been a great appointment two years earlier (summer 89)

I'm glad he didn't come. He may have done a better job than Lou Macari, but the facts are, that Macari gave me my best moments supporting this football club and some of the best moments if my life.

But to get us to within a Garry bastard Parker bastard goal of the 2nd div play-off final with our resources should be seen as a pretty herculean effort on the part of Lou anyway.

Got us promoted ? I know harsh Our last 9 away games under Lou we took 1 point and scored once, a 0-0 at Tranmere and our only goal was an og at Southend. Our home form was excellent though. Bolton who came up with us romped the league and didn't exactly spend money. They left us behind under Rioch

I am so glad it was Lou. Some of my best times watching Stoke were when Lou was manager.

It worked out fine. Macari was ideal and exactly what we needed.

The Redknapp interest was well known at the time. Typical good Coates appointment was Lou, i.e. lucky and fortunate.

It still hurts today. That night is THE most upset and pissed off I've ever been due to football.

I think that was called “being young” 😊 You're not wrong mate. We have had better times since in a footballing sense when you look at it, but Lou's stint coincided with me being in my late teens and early 20's when me and my mates didn't have any other cares in the world other than getting smashed and travelling all over the country watching Stoke, and it was the first time any of us had seen us being anything like successful

They left us behind under Rioch Selling Stein and losing Lou for 12 months while Bolton kept hold of McGinlay, McAteer, Alan Thompson etc. was also a big factor. We still managed to finish above them in 93/94 but the disruption of Joe Jordan coming in and the lack of goals (it took Regis until April before he reached what Stein had in October) set us back 18 months or so. I think the club also placed a lot of faith in Carruthers becoming Stein's natural successor which didn't work out well!

True but I felt we were looking like a team that was going to seriously struggle the next season.
