Was in a band when I was about 16 and we were playing in Hanley. I remember going into Clay Records and was 3 or 4 of the scariest blokes sat down staring and me and one of the other band members who came along . I tried to hand this one fella a demo tape and he just said 'F@ck off, you look like Nik Kershaw' 😁. Wasn't the look I was going for but tried to laugh it off and we left. Wasn't Route 66 near to it?

I always wonder how many young gig-goers (or even bands playing at the venue) realise that the graffiti facade on the front of The Sugarmill is a homage to these famous sons of the city?

That mural was only done last summer - it was in the paper at the time where they explained the origin but I suspect the phrase on the wall is lost on many.
