Ooh Georgie Berry - was he really any good ? I can recall him just pumping it forward most of the time and an peno expert, but was he a good defender? I can't remember, can't recall him having much pace about him. Didn't he get capped for Wales?
The first time I remember seeing him play, was when Chapman bulldozed him out of the way to score against Wolves, so I wasn't impressed when we signed him, but tbh, I warmed to him (How could you not after his debut!). He was a decent centre half of mid level first div quality (Not a patch on Watson however). But what he did have was crucial goals, and an attitude that seemed like it infected/drove the rest of the team.

Wow, I've never seen this since leaving the ground at the end. And I can't remember any of the goals after watching it. Is my mind making things up or did the late Les Sealey get pelted with snowballs from the Boothen End?

Disappeared pretty quickly, and a true off the radar ex Stoke. Where is he now?

I remember going away to Villa around this time and Georgie Berry was either injured or suspended, he was spotted in the stand and a roar of 'ooh Georgie Berry' started. George danced along the stand as the song rang out. Nowhere near the best footballer we've ever had but certainly one of the most popular and rightly so.

Had been called off a couple of times and pitch was only passed fit early afternoon.I remember about 2 or 3 mins before kick off was a few in the ground then filled up a little bit . After the clearance against Mick Harford was thinking was going to be a landslide

What a cross from Chamberlain for that second goal. IMHO it was that cross that got him in the England squad. That’s what Brian Clough said in a program called the big match revisited or something. He also praised Tony Waddington for taking him to Ajax in uefa cup with him when he was out of work. Bet they supped some ale that trip 😂

I'd love to be able to tell you the 4-4 draw was my first ever home game, but unfortunately it was the 0-3 defeat at home to West Brom a couple of weeks before.....

It’s a pleasure to read all these uplifting threads at the moment, great memories. Prestwich, best performance ever in a 3-0 defeat, Mark Chamberlain was unplayable. I loved your quote.

What a good week of football that was.
Previous Saturday won away at Ipswich to go top (3-2 I think) Straight over to Copenhagen from Harwich to see Paul Bracewell play for the England U21's on the Tuesday and then England draw with Denmark 2-2 on the Wednesday. Back in time for the 4-4 Luton game. Epic week...!!!
