You shouldn’t call them Notts Forest. It upsets them, y’know 😈

We were far and away the better side at home, never really got into the replay.

We were brilliant in that game. Forest had finished third in the Premier League the year before and well on their way to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup when we played them.
Jason Lee was getting a load of stick on Fantasy Football League at the time. Typically his mis-kick set up their equaliser.
If anything that video shows what a loss Simon Sturridge was the following season. Very similar to Fuller in the way he could tie defenders in knots. His hat trick at Southend was one of the best we'd seen until Ric did similar against West Brom 12 years later

Why were there no away fans in the Stoke end paddock?

Why were there no away fans in the Stoke end paddock? Dont know the actual answer but games with Forest early mid 90s there was always trouble. Maybe they were only given tickets for the seats? Running battles down Lonsdale Street and the side streets after this game from memory. we did play well this game as Forest were a good team at the time. Think we lost 2 or 3 nil in replay

So unlucky in that game, that one that hit the inside of the post and landed in their keepers arms.

Absolutely brilliant vocal backing from the support that season. Does anyone remember the Millwall game that season for the atmosphere? Every time they came into our half it was ‘fuck off Millwall, fuck off Millwall’ just plain old skool hard atmosphere.

We were superb that day. Typical Stoke not to finish Forest off second half when we were battering them.....

Think we lost 2 or 3 nil in replay I’ve seen hundreds of games at the old ground (as I’m sure you have), and never once seen the Stoke end paddock closed. We used to have far more trouble against the likes of Wolves and Birmingham and never used those tactics.

We absolutely battered them that day but you knew without the second goal what was coming. Pearce was like a one man attacking team last 15 minutes, what a player he was. Sturridge was so bad when he first joined but after a winner v Notts County as a sub he became a different player.
Replay I think Kevin Campbell scored and lost 2-0

Perhaps we give Forest the whole Stoke end expecting them to sell out and sold the seats first and they only sold a couple thousand?? Same as you I cant recall the paddock closed any other time.

Back then it seems we hadn’t perfected the going backwards thing.

Not my first game, but this was the first game I can vaguely remember. Think we were the feature game on MOTD as well

The away return game is the only game I've ever 'ran' from. Left about 5 minutes early knowing where there trouble would be and to make our way there, only about 5 of us in our little group, as we left along came about 200 Notts fans charging down the road, run did we!
Was only a kid at the time, gave me an appetite for that side of football. Not that I agree or condone it now...

The Forest FA cup game was actually in 1996, the season we eventually lost to Leicster in the play off at the Old Vic. We went out to Bristol City in the 1994/95 season. Sorry, just trying to get the sequence of events right in my memory I really enjoyed watching this again, we had some good players back then I'd forgoten about.

Sturridge and Sheron, they looked a great partnership but typical stoke we sold Sheron and I’m not quite sure what happened to Studger. I remember they had Pineapple head up too or was it Collymore?? I recall they went wild after they scored and when I came out of the ground I walked around towards the city end from the boothen and Forest were in fighting mood

I remember an early season game, a 2-1 win at home to Man City, where he was fantastic. Sadly, he then picked up a really bad knee injury a few weeks later at Barnsley and never fully recovered. Shockingly bad luck for the player and for us because we never really had a skilful front man like him until Fuller arrived.
