Dean Ashton never got off that train at Stoke and, in fact, is still on it to this very day.

2002 Millennium Stadium. Stoke were the team that stopped the jinxed curse of the South Side Dressing Room when we beat Brentford in the Play Off Final. All 12 previous cup and play off finals had been won by teams who had use of the North Side dressing room. Remember Wayne Thomas walking around the pitch at the end of the game with a home made flag with 'Dressing Room Jinx - My A**e' emblazoned across it!
Great day out that was. We officially became known as the team to have broken the curse of that dressing room..

And he is wrong. Or is he? That is the question. There was no documentary evidence of when we were formed. All we know is that the first written evidence of us playing a game was 1868. Big deal, it is our date of formation in question not when our first game was worth of being recorded. Don’t get me wrong, march, I would sincerely love to find proof of our founding as 1863: if nothing else, to spike the guns of all those annoying Forest fans who would lay claim to being the oldest club still in the league (est.1865). But surely there would be a snippet in the local press of 1863 if a football club had been established? History without evidence is not history - it’s legend. Heck, I’m quite happy to support a legendary club! Ask Oldstokie I’m sure he attended the first game 😉

Hitler’s main war aim being to deny Stoke the 1940 league championship. We were acknowledged to be the best side at the outbreak of the war. So much so that when the league was suspended all other clubs bar one voted to hand us the trophy anyway. Unfortunately it had to be a unanimous decision so Liverpool voting against scuppered it. We should remember this "fact" when discussing the current suspension

Now you know why the league should be null and void. Just to stop the dippers from getting the title. Getting our own back!!

Captain Smith of the Titanic from Hanley. His grandson Denis was a first team regular from the late 60s to the early 80s.

Think you just have to start with all the teams that won at the MillStad and work through eliminating them from the Wembleys. I'll try and get round to it

As a result of a post on the Oatcake some years ago, more Stoke fans have got their brown wings than any other group of supporters.

Never heard of it but the post is very convincing how it's written. Given the season was scrapped after a handful of games it's probably not true

Biggest attendance in England outside of Wembley was Man City v Stoke for a 6th round FA cup game at Maine Road in 1934. 84,569. Obviously 70k of that was the away following.

A Stoke match still registers the highest UK football ground attendance for any match outside Wembley. On 3 March 1934, Stokes 6th round FA Cup game against Manchester City at Maine Rd attracted an official crowd attendance of 84,569. Stoke's own home Victoria ground record is 51,380 when City played a game of Association football in the English First Division against Arsenal on 29th March 1937. The Arsenal Manager at the time, George Allison, is believed to have commented that the way Stoke played made the match more like a game of Rugby. Also - not strictly a Stoke fact but almost - the biggest crowd for any game ever in Britain was 149,547 for Scotland v England at Hampden in 1937. The England forward line contained 3 Stoke players. Like the Man City cup tie, the attendance was probably swelled by Sir Stan.

Stoke also hold the record for the most appearances in the FA Cup 3rd/4th place playoffs! One of which also saw the first use of a penalty shoot-out in the FA Cup. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/FA_Cup_Third-fourth_place_matchesThe competition was (probably quite rightly) scrapped after 5 seasons.

Also - and this is my third and final offering. Stoke City are “... by FAR the greatest TEAM ... the world has ever SEEN!!”
I know this to be true as I heard it via the medium of song.
