Think he watched incognito or the Stoke End as we call it! ! Didn't they have a famous striker playing for them, Batistuta (sp?) Yes as Onlooker said Batistuta and Effenburg played that night. Who’d have thought the 20/25 minute Joe Jordan’s red and white army in the game after against Leicester would soon turn to jeers especially in the tactical masterclass at home to Bath😄 Both had quiet games. Francesco Toldo was in goals for them and Anselmo Robbiati who was a good player in midfield next to Effenburg. Was a few Fiorentina fans including a restaurant owner from Nantwich decked out totally in purple leading their singing. Was Joe Jordan's first game, he'd been a fan at the Sunderland game the week before. Jordan's home record was pretty good to be fair.

Those 3 games when Lou and Steino left were unbelievable with Chic in caretaker charge,Toddy’s winner against Sunderland was fantastic after the unbelievable game against Barnsley, then followed up with the Watford win. Joes record was decent at home but atrocious away and his negativity cost him in the end imo.

I liked Jordan as a person but yes we sat back away in games that were there to be won. Played some lovely stuff at home at times.

2 down after 6 minutes if I remember😮 It was certainly a mental game. Owen Archdeacon. Archdeacon and Redfearn scored in the opening minutes. Archdeacon hit the bar later with and incredible swerving 25 yarder. Didn't we come back to 2-2 with 2 quick own goals?

Yes and typical Stoke we were hanging on at the end as usual😄 Brendan O'Connell scored late for them to make it 5-4 , yes and we were hanging on a bit. We had some good games v them at that time although their place was cursed. We'd outplay them and lose 1-0

We did play Roma at home on a Satdee afternoon early 70’s.....70/71? I’d be 11/12years old. The 2nd half was live on telly on World of Sport (Dickie Davies etc) after the wrestling from somewhere like Bethnal Green town hall. You used to see women on the front row twatting the likes of Kendo Nagasaki and Count Bartelli with their handbags as they lay on the floor with their heads through the ropes.......true. Anyway, from memory it finished 3-3....we had 2 sent off and so did they (think Smithy was one of em’). 50 odd years ago now but I seem to recall there was like biblical rain and both teams were covered in mud. Can’t remember what I had for my tea earlier, but definitely remember this or a version of it any road up as like.

It was 2-2 Greenhoff and Smith scored I was there, remember it being feisty Random note: Mike Pejic played 60 games for us that season and Mike Bernard 55!!!

I was at the home games. Not a bad little tournament actually. It was a weird tournament because you got a point for every goal you scored as well 2 pts for a win and 1pt for a draw. Blackpool got on the final because they scored more goals than us even though we won and drew the same amount of games as them. Also though we played in a group with 2 Italian teams the group we competed in was only of English teams. So you had to top the group of English teams to get to the final even though we didn't play any English teams in the competition?...We were in Blackpool's group but never got to play them!.....Confused?
