Thought of this thread when I saw this beaut of a picture pop up on twitter just now. Hope he's still doing well. That's a brilliant photo.

A one club man born in Stoke-on-Trent with almost 400 matches to his name, nearly all of them in the top flight.
I mean can you even begin to imagine...
Banks, Marsh, Pejic, Smith, Bloor. That's the Stoke City defense, anything else is a well intentioned tribute band!

You wouldn’t fuck about with that back four, Osgood and Summerbee just to name two tried it and failed.

One of my favourite Stoke players of all time.
A lot of the comments are about how difficult he was to get around as a defender (and he was!), but what a sweet right foot he had. Used to ping the ball 50/60 yards onto Big John's head or chest with pinpoint accuracy. Lovely footballer. Would have made a fantastic wing back in modern day football with his attacking overlapping runs and crossing.

I don’t know if Jackie Marsh and Mick Pejic invented the overlapping full back (that was probably Waddo) but they certainly perfected it. It was one of many reason for the success of that team. However, Marsh and Pejic were also superb defenders as well as excellent crossers of the ball. It’s also well documented Marsh was blind as a bat without his contacts, which he sometimes lost during the game. I will never forget watching the team frantically searching for one in the grass right in front of me in the old Butler Street Stand. I never understood why they didn’t have a back-up pair ready.

The Brazilians invented the overlapping fullback Malcolm Allison claims he was the first overlapping fullback in our game as a player at West Ham

Three of our best top four from the Longton area, young’uns now refer to Longton as L.A. which I never quite understand - but I am a bit slow!

John McCue got a job training school kids after retiring and travelled around the schools, when he came to Carmountside I tried to get past him and he just nudged me and sent me flying over a dwarf wall, nice bloke though. Eddie Clamp possibly the hardest man in football at the time.

He used to do football at Moorland college as well ,he would find it funny to knock you up the wall in 5 aside.Had all the tricks even at a older age..But as you said a nice bloke.
