I don't really think you can put Denis Smith and Hunter in the same bracket. Denis and Tommy Smith of L'pool were what I would term as 'real hard men' but Norman Hunter would be in the same category as Vinnie Jones. He was a thug at times much like Vinnie and also Mick Kennedy who played for us. (Mick Kennedy was the only player I hated wearing the red and white stripes. He was a vile bastard who deliberately went out to maim other players.)
Norman Hunter was also a very talented player and as others have said, a decnt bloke off the field. So RIP lad.

Top bloke Norman Hunter. Met him 20 years ago or more. Had some crack over the 3-2 game in 74. He said how devastated they were that they'd lost that day. Old breed of footballer who didn't forget where he came from and wasn't stuck up his own arse. RIP Norman.
