During the corona virus crisis it has become crystal clear that the wages in the Championship hardly are sustainable in the long run. Should there be a wage cap in this division? It would probably make the playing field more even, and the clubs wouldn't need to be "looking over their shoulders" all the time in fear of overspending. Maybe £25K should be the maximum wages in the division, but only a number of players per club could earn that (3-5), the next 3-5 players could earn £20K, the next 3-5 £15K and the rest £10K if the club could do that. There should also probably be a maximum of first team players (20-22) to keep the costs down. All players would then have to accept this when they signed a contract for a PL team. I'm not sure my suggestion here is the right one, but something must be done to prevent a lot of clubs from going bankrupt in the coming years I think.

I don't think there will ever be a wages cap but if there was it would be more workable to have a club total wage bill cap which is what I think they have in American Football.

That would of course be another possibility, but something needs to be done quickly I think. Even £10K per week is quite a lot of money as I see it, £480K per year, but of course it's peanuts to PL wages. I honestly think there should be a maximum system there as well, to level the playing field a little bit.

No players to get more than below. Prem. £75.000. Championship.£40.000. 1st Div. £15.000. 2nd.Div.£7. 500. If the players dont like it, get a job stacking shelves.

No infringement on players' rights to earn whatever money their club is willing to pay them.

It would never have been allowed under EU law but with Brexit happening it could be possible to enforce.
No chance it will ever happen in the Prem as they top 6 want to compete against the European elite and will claim they cant be competitive.
A championship level wage cap would make a lot more sense.

I think you would find all the best players would be more likely to end up playing in Europe than working at Tesco. And therein lies the problem with a wagecap in football. All the sports that have a successful wagecap are sports with limited opportunities to play elsewhere (e.g. American Football, Rugby League etc.) As a worldwide sport (sadly) it would be extremely difficult to enforce such a cap in one country or one Division within that country.

Trouble is the relegated clubs from the Prem. For them to stay within a Championship wage cap, wage contracts in the Prem would HAVE to contain a clause dropping the wages down to Championship levels upon relegation. If that was the case I doubt that Premier League clubs would agree to it because it would limit the players they could attract from overseas. The USA has a huge advantage that, in most of their sports, they are not competing for players on a market as big as that of world football. In "soccer" their club wage bills are low by international standards - the result is that apart from the occasional star, most players at USA clubs don't even earn English Championship wages - and it shows in the quality of football.
