Unusual Sundays #647:
I spent yesterday with Mrs Onion at a blazing hot Ross-On-Wye in a large field full of 250 Ford Cortinas. Mrs Onion (owner of two of said motors, a Mk 4 and 5) is somewhat of an enthusiast- as were the several hundred owners yesterday- including other stuff of that era inc Capris, Granadas, RS 2000's. Otherwise normal people animatedly haggling over used fuel pumps and brake fluid master cylinders.
There seems to be two schools of thought- those who go all doe eyed and mist over at the though of their Cortina and those who never rated them.
At 35, I must admit when I was growing up, they were everywhere. Fucking millions of them. Up trees, under the bed, everywhere. Even the coppers drove them. But now they're rare, they provoke strange reactions. We want past Wetherspoons in Stoke not so long ago and a bloke at the smoking tables nearly went tits up off his chair as he pointed at us and screeched "Cortina!"
Why does this happen? I speak of course as partner of Mrs Onion who says 'it's only a game' about football and cannot fathom why people get so uptight about it....?? ;D

I used to have an early Cortina 'E' in my mid 20s
Not the best car I ever had but certainly one I remember with affection.

I had a 1.6L Mk5 Cortina with 2.3 Ghia badges on it. I also had a 2.3GL Mk2 Granada with the then obligatory Turbosystems stickers. ;D
That Granny is still one of my favourite cars, I loved it.
