Butland 7, not much to do to be honest. Smith 7, should have done better when they scored, but still a decent showing. Batth 8, solid as usual. Chester 8, looked solid. Indi 7, should have stopped the cross for their goal, but apart from that a decent game. Ince 8, played very well and worked ever so hard. Allen 8.5, MOM, was everywhere! Clucas 7, a decent game, but I even expect better from him. Powell 7.5, good, but still more to come. McClean 7.5, a good game. Campbell 7, didn't score, but with his pace and movement space is created.
Thompson 6.5, did exactly what was expected from him. Vokes 7, won every header after coming on. Verlinden, not enough time on the pitch to give a mark.

All of them 10 even the announcer who couldn't get Thompsons' name right and the daft girl in the Boothen who dances around like she's doing the Wenger every time we win. Gouranga.

Butland 4 - the goal started with his kick and ended with his dithering to come or not. His distribution was actually pretty good bar that one kick.
Smith 7 Baath 7 Chester 8 Indi 6
Allen 8 Clucas 7
Ince 8 Powell 8 McClean 7
Campbell 7

Butland 5 - Frightens the life out of me every time there's a cross into the box
Smith 7 - Solid no silly mistakes Chester 7 - A bit rusty but organised well. Baath 7 - looked more composed with Chester alongside BMI 7 - What you want in a left back, knows how to defend
Allen 6 - thought he was more sloppy on the ball than usual, surprised a few on here thought he was MOM Clucas 8 - always available for a pass, probably our most important player at the moment.
Ince 8 - MOM, worked hard but also actually ran at defenders, best game of the season Powell 8 - Always looking to make things happen McClean 5 - I know he scored but I don't think one cross found a teammate, I thought he was awful today.
Campbell 7 - led the line well, I wasn't sure he could play as a loan striker but was very good today.

Butland 7 not a great deal to do
Smith 7 looking better by the game. Batth 7 steady as always Chester 7 good debut. Looked assured Indi 7 steady
Allen 8 looks like a brand new player Clucas 6 bit quiet by his standards Powell 8 MOTM. Quality.
McClean 8 love this guy. Another great showing Ince 7 another one much improved under MON
Campbell 7 all round game is definitely improving

He is so reluctant to come to claim a high ball, at 6’5”, and taller with his arms above his head than any other player, that it is always a realistic possibility that the opposition will get to the ball. England player? Not likely ever again.

Butland 6 - Almost nothing to do. Very harsh to criticise him for the goal we conceded. Smith 7 - Good showing at both ends of the pitch apart from their goal. Did exceptionally well for Powell's goal, though. Batth 7 - Won everything in the air, looked solid alongside a competent defender. Chester 7 - Encouraging debut. Rusty at first but otherwise nice and composed. Martins-Indi 6 - Competent if unspectacular. Allen 8 - All over the pitch as usual, did everything right. Made himself available for the ball. Clucas 7 - Solid performance. Ince 8 - *Finally* a goal and a good performance. Took his man on and looked dangerous throughout. Powell 8 - Nice goal and assist. More performances like this required. Still needs to get on the ball more and make things happen if he is to be the playmaker that he thinks he is. McClean 7 - Right place for the goal, good energy as usual. Campbell 8 - Only 70% fit but really linked play intelligently. Such a talent.

I would be interested to know , the view of Peter shilton , mark crossley, Tommy Sorensen , Lee grant , Adam federici ...on a stoke keeper who doesn't want to come for a cross . I find this situation bizarre . Why would Danny baath , James Chester etc , want a keeper , who never comes for a cross . It's mad ... It's like a RNLI lifeboat man, saying I don't want to go out to sea , when the weather is bad and the sea is rough .

Chester was fantastic, Allen never let them settle into any possession, Clucas grew into the game and was running it by the end, Campbell gives us so much more mobility and range of options, Batth rock solid, Smith was static for their goal but otherwise v good, McClean was his usual tigerish tireless self, Powell and Ince were both good and showed their quality......which leaves Butland who was a bit flat footed and line bound and Indi who's lack of pace was exposed for their goal and who's passing and distribution were shit. So high end 8's down to a 5.5.

Butland 6 - much better kicking, a couple of high quality passes, not much keeping to do Smith 7 - solid and important in the third goal Batth 7 - Won everything in the air, looked solid alongside a competent defender. Chester 7 - composed is the word Martins-Indi 5 - defended ok but passing up the line was frankly dire Allen 8 - captain fantastic Clucas 6 - adequate. Ince 7 - much better from him, some good tracking back as well as the positive stuff Powell 6 - took his goal well McClean 5 - frustrating - got in a lot of crosses, overhit or underhit almost every one. Campbell 7 - scared them to death at times
Overall, a very competent team performance and Charlton were lucky not to get a hiding

Butland - 6
Smith - 7 Batth - 7 Chester - 7 Indi - 5
Allen - 7 Clucas - 7
Ince - 7 (had he not scored he'd have been a six, really couldn't see the plaudits for him today. Was his usually anonymous self til the goal, then he had ten mins after where he actually wanted to know, that's how he should play all the time! Threw away a massive chance to kill the game too by dithering)
Powell - 7 McClean - 6
Campbell -7 (did all his best work running at defenders and playing others in, didn't offer much of a goal threat though)
Thompson - 7 Vokes - 7

They don't even show the goal kick, which is evidence that the goal kick didn't lead directly to the goal. Yes, perhaps he could have come for the cross. Difficult for me to say. I know he would have looked like more of a 'dick' had he come and missed his punch/catch. As far as I can see, Martins-Indi got done for pace by their winger who swung in a decent cross. Smith (who otherwise had a good game) was behind his man and so failed to defend what should have been a routine cross. I will stick with my 6/10 rating and stand by my comment that it is harsh to criticise him for the goal.

He did go for the cross and then ran backwards after his mind, meaning he wasn’t set to save the shot.
