Some very good points there ID. The mobile phone ban has in some cases made the roads more dangerous, as frequently I see people texting and calling trying to hide their phone. People are too impatient to get around slower moving vehicles aswell. Folks with BMWs/Audis etc seem to think they have the right to tailgate and intimidate anyone that isn't doing 100mph in the outside lane.
Lorry drivers contribute to road hazards aswell. Many overtake the lorry infront of them when they are doing pretty much the same speed. This causes a backlog of cars and the "middle lane sitters" just add to this hazard, as people who employ correct land discipline find it hard to overtake.
People do not leave the inside lane when there is a sliproad joining the carriageway, so this causes people to slow brake-sharply and use the hard shoulder incorrectly.
Cruise control is also a factor causing hazards on the motorway. People constantly touching their brakes on motorways with cruise control on causes a chain reaction of people braking. Also sat-nav, crusie control and entertainment systems causes people to direct their concentration away from the road.
Something needs to be done about this stretch of M6 and the terrible design of J15

Have to agree with ID, the main danger on Britain's motorways is careless/inconsiderate/bad driving.
I don't use the motorway anything like as much as some other people on this board but the countless (literally) moronic dickheads that I see using the motorway incorrectly really wind me up!!
The main culprits are "middle lane hoggers" and "I'm in a BMW and will sit in the outside lane for the whole of my journey" mob.
The "middle lane hoggers" sit there in their mobile living rooms doing 65mph totally oblivious to the rest of the world.............DANGEROUS
The "I'm in a BMW and will sit in the outside lane for the whole of my journey" have no consideration for other road users as they drive "the best car in the world" and everybody else is less important than them. I have been in the outside lane myself doing 80+ with nowhere to go (because of the MLH's) with traffic in front of me and idiots behind me, so close we're trading paint, weaving from side to side and flashing their lights!! DICKHEADS!!!
As has been said before training needs to be given in motorway driving. A secondary test should be introduced. People should be banned from motorways until they have passed a second test.
Blanket speed limits are not the answer. The terrible deaths of these two young children would not have been averted by such a limit as the tit who killed them was driving over the limit and dangerously. Do you really think he would have been driving more slowly had the limit been 50mph?
No. Proper training and enforcement of the correct motorway driving techniques are what is needed.
My thoughts are with the children's family and the driver responsible needs to be punished for his crime, which is essentially manslaughter, and should possibly be made an example of.
I know you're trying to do something eye, but I truly do not believe it's the right course of action.
