Why do these SNP types go for partners out of their age range. Derek has been cracking onto a 16yr old boy, Alex went for a woman old enough to be his mother & Nicola, well she’s just Nicola...

Alex Salmond is due to stand trial on the 9th of March for 14 sexual offences against women. If you want to read the details of the charges aginst him have a look at www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-51206284The allegations against Alex Salmond were described as " utterly heartbreaking " by the Scottish Justice Minister Humza Yousaf. Incidentally, when he was our Transport Minister Humza Yousaf was convicted of driving without insurance and fined £ 300. The despicable SNP politicians that we have up here in Scotland set a poor example to the rest of us.

Incidentally where do you stand with Scottish independence and what is the general consensus of the population. Do you think that it has been fully thought through by SNP? There are issues that I don’t fully understand such as currency, defence, police, finances (given the Westminster subsidy through Barnett formula will cease and Scotland already has one of the worst GDP deficit in Europej. Also what effect will independence have on families that could be split by having a boarder. Personally I hope that Scottish independence never happens and it can be filed as flying pigs alongside all electric cars. Apologies for going off topic a bit but just interested in your views living in Scotland.

I believe the biggest issue is the currency, I read an interesting article which I unfortunately forgot to bookmark that says Scotland has to have its own currency to become an EU member, generous estimates reckoned it would be 80% of the value of gbp which as every mortgage, loan etc was in pounds would cause considerable problems and there was no way they could just be changed to be dominated in the ginger pound.

Hi Lawrie. Thanks for your reply to my contribution to this thread. I think that it would be completely crazy for Scotland to be independent of the rest of Britain. I suspect that the majority of the voters in Scotland would also support this opinion. It seems to me that there are parallels between the anti Brexit voters and the pro Scottish independence voters in that they are very vocal but in a minority. I’m not sure that I’m the best person to comment on this because I have lived and worked in a remote and distant part of the Scottish Highlands for nearly 50 years.
In my opinion the SNP are obsessed with independence and this has resulted in falling standards in areas such as education, the health services and social care. As regards currency Alex Salmond has stated that it is Scotland's pound as well. However, I suspect that an independent Scotland would not play any part in determining the fiscal policy of the rest of Britain. I suspect that many people in Scotland do not appreciate the generosity of the Barnett formula for public expenditure.
Up here in the Highlands the Scottish economy is very dependent on the tourist and whisky production industries. In recent years energy production has been increasingly important and we now have both onshore and offshore wind farms as well as subsea turbines in the Pentland Firth. I live in the Caithness district of the Highland region and it is expected that the population of Caithness will decrease by 21% in the next 20 years. This is mainly due to the run down and eventual closure of the civil and military nuclear sites in Caithness.
In Scotland we have the strategically important RAF base at Lossiemouth and the Royal Navy base at Faslane for submarines which includes those carrying the nuclear deterrent. I cannot imagine that an independent Scotland would want to have those bases. I suspect that an independent Scotland would have a token and completely ineffective armed service.
I think that mainstream policing would be satisfactory but specialised areas such as counter terrorism and large scale financial fraud could be problematic due to lack of suitable experience and resources. Having a border of any kind between Scotland and England would cause considerable problems which I think would mainly affect the people and industries of Scotland. It seems to me that Scotland has too many career politicians - Derek Mackay and Humza Yousaf are good examples of politicians who have very limited real life experiences . Rant over !

Wow! Who'd have thought the virtuous, decent Scottish MPs could be as perverse and duplicitous as their oppressive English counterparts
Well, at least he was 16 I guess
