3 Billion. Just what we need at the moment. What is the point seriously because I havent got a clue. And before any dickhead gets smart I know its for hunting Submarines.I suppose war=money as we all know but how much longer are we going to spend more money on war and weapons of mass destruction rather than finding cures and solving the planets main issues? www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-north-east-orkney-shetland-51356381

What about him ?Have Russia ever attacked Britain? Plus I think they have bigger fish to fry, and if you listen to the news terrorism is the new kind of war so why dont we invest (if its a must)in the correct types of technology?

It’s money well worth spent on security, particularly on the northern approaches to the British Isles. It’s well known Russian submarines are operating in our territorial waters, and we certainly need to plug the gap in detection and deterrent.

I've done a few artic patrols tracking Russians, that's where they go out to the world from Murmansk, need to keep a track on them and their activities. Nuclear weapons can do a bit more damage than IT bugs etc. they may shut down IT systems but you also want to keep an eye on where they are by the eye.

Putin is one slippery fish and don’t for one minute think that when he moves over that’s the end of him. He’s easing his way into a far more powerful position than ever.
Russia has more subs than ever, makes sense to keep a very close eye on things. Putins name may not be foremost in your thoughts when it comes to terrorism but he’s pulling strings I’m sure. His involvement in the Middle East is alarming to say the least and current negotiations with China, while cloaked by the guise of trade partnerships, are a bit of a worry. Keep your eyes on the old Silk Road route, once that’s complete it’s a free ride to the shores of the Med for one huge army.
May not have been a stabbing or a home made bomb vest but remember Alexander Litvinenko ? Or the Amesbury incident ? High level terrorism on our streets right under our noses. No one charged or ever will be yet we all know who issued the orders.
Argue the case for HS2 spending but not for a defence budget especially now we are going alone.

Totally agree about Russia, but the big long term threat will be from China. Wonder if they have " Yellow Submarines"

Some years ago I sailed with a Retired Russian sub mariner. He told me that the Russian subs were literally leaking radiation . He also said there were dozens (if not hundreds) of decommissioned boats just left to rot with there reactors as they had no way of disposing of them. Quite scary.

NATO is on its last legs and the new European army will replace it. Already been discussed as NATO is becoming unworkable. Forget what the news at 10 tells you and dig around for the real truth.
Why are Russia and Syria good buddies these days (even after the Syrians shot down a Russian fighter by mistake ) ? Talk to the people on the Russian borders to see what’s happening there.
Look at Russian politics and see how the recent changes will affect things when Putin steps down (or steps up ) from his current role.
Or just carry on watching the ever reliable BBC news and continue to think everything’s ok and we are all good pals 🙄

CHeers There’s plenty of stuff out there but I quickly found this which explains what’s going on www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.forbes.com/sites/wadeshepard/2019/07/23/silk-road-breakthrough-russia-to-begin-construction-on-the-china-western-europe-transport-corridor/amp/As I’ve already said, it’s based on a ‘trade’ route but once up and running it could lead to a whole load of other things. Given Russia already has a few military bases in Syria ( raises a question in itself ) and its ever growing friendship with China you be a fool not to be concerned. Once through to the Middle East, Europe is on the doorstep. NATO is about as threatening as a paper tiger these days without American involvement so should we be worried ? Maybe not just yet but worth keeping an eye on things. Makes perfect sense to upgrade our sub hunter planes. People think the worlds a lovely place, my Ukrainian friends will tell you a very very different tale. Something’s brewing, Europe knows it and is well underway in getting the Euro Army in place as NATO is pretty much ineffective in the big picture. American and UK troops will tell you that. Still, the BBC pumps out drivel to anyone that’ll take it and the masses slumber while the powers get stronger. May be a few years away yet but keep an eye on things. This is building...

Cheers for that….Im a busy lad tonight what with all this material to read through….. Some of the Ukranian boys I work with Offshore have said similar in terms of what is NOT reported in the press…..the old saying "you dont know the half of it" rings true here - although we dont know a hundredthe of whats going on.... You probably heard similar but some of the stuff the ROV boys and Engineers have told me would make yer fuckin teeth itch !!!
