We have a lot of threads on individuals. What about the team?
Fighting and scrapping for each other in every Dept.
All deserve credit today

It’s been a long time since we’ve looked like a team. No massive individual stand-outs today, but everyone just kept on grinding it out and we never really looked troubled. Seeing players just keep going, not hiding even when they’re having a bit of a mare.....it’s so refreshing to see. The difference MON has made with this group of players is fucking outstanding.

For the last few seasons we've had eleven blokes taking to the field in red & white stripes, with MO'N at the helm we now have a team going out there to play for us.

That was a really excellent performance 2nd half. Such a shame gregory and vokes are terrible. Vokes had a decent game, chased down possession a lot which helped to start us getting back into the game. His 3 way chase and slide in the first half was what started us waking up. And he won much of the balls in the air, flicking on for McClean and Powell. Gregory was invisible apart from missing a good chance again.

Spot on. It’s a team game - prior to MON poor team play was letting individuals down and making them look poor. Today is a great example of the teamwork getting us across the line. All our forward players still made mistakes at times as well as contributing moments of quality but it was still a terrific performance overall. It’s going to get better.

Finally seeing fruition of what looks to be an excellent team on paper. If Afobe recovers effectively and hasn't already been as good as sold to Bristol City he could add even more without the need for more big spending.

I've said ad nauseam on here over the years that football is a team game, not about individuals.
There was a lot of misunderstanding between players again today, but at least they were trying things instead of the negative sideways and backward passing, which was kept to a minimum and only when necessary.
Unlike the WBA game, where we were holding on for almost all the match, today we started slowly and were holding on for much of the time in the last quarter, but a large part of the game we were bossing the game and Swansea were clearly losing heart and getting desperate. This was against a team who have been consistently been pushing for a play-off place all season, and have a lot of tricky players.

Need another player with quality in front of goal, other than that we are a good team now! Well done MON. Yeah, we need to get Gregory out and get someone in who can actually score goals. Having said that I'm not sure why we're not using Diouf more. He would have probably been a better option than Gregory today and might have nicked a goal.

Gregory is the one casualty of the O’Neill era. Having consistently been one of our better players under Jones he’s just not a lone striker. Plus a lot of responsibility for dropping a bit deeper to look for the ball, which he did well at the start of the season, has been switched to Powell, who does it better still. Until yesterday I would’ve also said that Clucas has suffered a little for being made to play a bit deeper as part of a midfield two. But he showed yesterday that he can be hugely effective in that role if he’s on his game.

But he showed yesterday that he can be hugely effective in that role if he’s on his game. Gregory is a victim of his own short coming. He puts in a huge amount of work load, runs the opposition defence ragged, makes himself available for passes, has a good first touch and good ball control. He isn't a great header because he is too short and will always struggle against a taller defender. He also has the ability to constantly get into scoring positions, but (the "but" was always coming) he misses loads of chances to score. His finishing is atrocious. If he had only taken half the chances he has been presented with this season he would be far and away our highest scorer. Yesterday he missed an absolute sitter in front of goal and should have "ended" the game, but it went flying over the bar. I said to the wife, don't they ever practice shooting? I would not give up on him, and I don't think MON will. Maybe he will "click" and start burying all the chances he gets and we will have a very good striker.

The two chances he missed in both games he should have took a touch and hit them instead he snatched first time with both. If he had cut back on both occasions the defenders would have been going get ice cream and he would have had a free hit, but if he’s desperate to score he’s just snatching. Was it 23 shots we had yesterday? We are creating chances just need to take his time.

Mostly I agree with you there but I think Gregory is pretty decent in the air. He’s definitely not too short, he’s 6’2” which is an inch taller than Vokes, although he’s not as strong so not as good at outmuscling an opponent to win a header. Against Fulham at home this season we played Gregory and Campbell as a pair up front and the tactic was very much to go long to Gregory’s head for a flick on to Campbell. He won pretty much every header that day.
