Mike Pompeo lastnight informed Priti Patel that for the first time, America would not be honouring an extradition request from Britain. There have been countless near misses of Americans driving on the opposite side of the road around the American airbase in Northamptonshire. So, my question is, Should we swap Anne for Prince Andrew in some sort of tit for twat exchange or do we start driving on the right side of the road to accommodate our American brethren...

I thought you knew driving on the right was part of a US FTA along with giving them the NHS? At least some of us have a finger on the pulse

Diplomatic Immunity was offered and should be honoured.
If countries are so stupid that this is a thing, it's the fault of the countries that offer it when something goes wrong.
Although I'd offer a Prince Andrew swap for definite.

It's going to take some diplomacy for sure. This will be the first test for Boris and if this woman does not come back, I think it will be quite damaging for him.

That is literally what the whole issue is about.

Our extradition treaty with the US is imbalanced as is, as far as I'm aware any US extradition request can be grated without the need for Prima Facie evidence but this is not the case vice versa. Any British request must satisfy a certain number of criteria before it is granted which in this case it hasn't. In as much as the US agree that her immunity has been waived but because the incident occurred when she was subject to it, that she has no case to answer.

There is most definitely a precedent, the US themselves did it in 1997 with a Georgian diplomat who killed a 16 year old girl, he eventually had his immunity waived by the Georgian authorities and was extradited. In 2012 we had a similar instance with Colombia when a diplomat was forced to come back and face attempted murder charges.....

They did actually save the country late or not.And there was also a little help from our friends the Soviet Union. We'd already saved ourselves in 1940. We were incredibly lucky not to be torn to shreds, Nazi Germany were one more air battle away from winning the skies over Britain. Luckily Hitler decided eastern expansion was a good idea and they wasted their resources in the Soviet Union. Had they not bothered attacking the USSR, They'd have taken Britain and had a good jab at the USA too.
