Middlesbrough, Stoke and Derby want to sign Bournemouth’s Jack Simpson on loan. The Cherries are expected to make a decision on whether to let the centre-back go later this week. Simpson, 23, has made only six appearances this season; three in the Premier League, two in EFL Cup and one in the FA Cup. He is a Bournemouth academy graduate and ex-England U21 international. He has also played left back too, so maybe he is "the one" for that spot?

www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/stoke-transfers-oneill-fleetwood-souttar-3755722Michael O’Neill is keeping an open mind on whether to recall Harry Souttar to Stoke City from his loan spell at Fleetwood Town.
He says he is erring on the side of leaving him there - and in the meantime admits he is still looking elsewhere for new centre halves too.
“It is a position we are looking at in terms of what’s available in the market to see if there’s anything that would improve us.
“But I suppose it’s fair to say we are looking at all positions.”MON did say he was looking at centre-backs - but it would be a bit of a surprise?

Converted from midfielder to "ball-playing centre-half" by Howe. theathletic.co.uk/1487777/2019/12/27/injury-hit-bournemouth-find-capable-deputies-in-rookie-full-backs-simpson-and-stacey/During his time in Bournemouth’s youth set-up, Simpson predominantly played as a central midfielder before being converted into a ball-playing defender by Howe. But his experiences on the left flank have been limited, barring a fleeting appearance in a chaotic match at Southampton last season.
“Maybe I played there when I was 11 or 12,” says Simpson. “I played left wing-back against Southampton last year and I lasted about 20 minutes before I went back to centre-half"
“I wouldn’t say it was anything to do with me (moving position). The game was so open and we didn’t play well as a team, so we ended up changing it where I had to go back to centre-half.
Simpson’s call-up at left-back was a case of ‘needs must’ for Eddie Howe. Bournemouth came into the game with no recognised left-backs available. Injuries had claimed not only Lloyd Kelly and Charlie Daniels but Adam Smith and Nathan Ake, who have both played the position in the the past. Diego Rico, meanwhile, was suspended.

If we are prioritising a centre-half, it does raise a few questions.
Batth Lindsay Shawcross Collins BMI (Souttar)
A left-back just seems the obvious next addition, but hard to criticise MON who must have a plan

After my post about not seeing a stoke defender chest the ball in the last 5 to 10 years BMI did just that at west brom, so some bugger down there must be reading the oatcake and they've taken my advice on board and MON has had them doing it in training!!!!!
Seriously though, if BMI were to be an outgoing this month and we were to get a proper left back in i would be fine with that.

If we are prioritising a centre-half, it does raise a few questions. Batth Lindsay Shawcross Collins BMI (Souttar) A left-back just seems the obvious next addition, but hard to criticise MON who must have a plan But of those, we can't (sadly) rely on Shawcross and MON clearly is reluctant to use someone as young and inexperienced as Collins regularly in our relegation battle. So if one of Batth or Lindsay were injured, and we had to move BMI inside, we'd be back with Ward. So the defence is still thin and, to be honest, any of them could be improved on.

Of course, but he’s another big earner we could get off the books and he’d jump at a move. Depends who’s interested.....

If it means no Lindsay then yes Isn't Lindsay starting to improve? Yes. And long may it continue. Let’s be honest though he’s been woeful so far bar a couple of games. I’d love him to become a top drawer ball playing CB.

Can’t see what advantage that gives to a centre back mind.

All we need then for games at the Bet365 is a ref who is a homer.....
