Why’s that, aren’t the select group of refs supposed to apply the rules in the same way regardless of the standard of football? |

I assume you accept that Premier League players are generally better than Championship players, who are better than Division 1 players, who are better than Division 2 players? Or that Test cricketers are better than County cricketers, who are better than club cricketers? If so, why is it so hard to accept that the best referees will be appointed to the higher level games? (In the case of Gavin Ward, he (and most of the referees we will get this season) is a Select Group 2 referee and therefore seen as either a referee on the way up or one who has reached his level and will not rise to be "an elite" referee. |
