He was a scrupulous curator of his father's works. But he intensely disliked the commercialisation of those works in the last thirty years or so. He said:
“Tolkien has become a monster, devoured by his own popularity and absorbed by the absurdity of our time. The commercialisation [of The Lord of the Rings] has reduced the aesthetic and philosophical impact of the creation to nothing”.

Joe In Oz where are you?
Do your job! It’s your place to place obscure obituaries on here.
Your reputation as the Oatcake Grim Reaper is in tatters ya drongo.

Not only did he edit his father's works he was a novelist in his own right and a lecturer in English at New College, Oxford.
