If we decided to give everyone of our players away for free, we would still be stuck with most of them, because of their wages.

My worry is if Allen goes, he sees Woods as the ideal replacement. He isn't.
I think LB, CM and possibly GK. The LB I think will be Brunt, he's better than Ward IMO. CM - God knows, but we need one I think if Allen does leave. GK - Butland leaves, we need one. Or Davies goes on loan to Hearts?
Long term the goal needs to be developing our youngsters as well. A. It could save us a ton of money - B. It'd be nice to have our academy players making an impact.
New GK Smith/Edwards - Shawcross - Collins - New LB New CM - Clucas Verlinden - Powell - McClean/N'Goy (Potentially) Campbell
For me in the long term. I just don't see a future at the club at the club for Woods and Cousins, though we might not have a choice soon.
I think a front 4 of Verlinden - Powell - Mac/Julien and Campbell could be very tasty.

And what if Bruno goes? He's been wanting to for quite a while, he just hasn't gone about it the way some others have, perhaps more to the point, nobody has wanted him badly enough.

Agree with this: Allen will leave a massive gap if he goes - one of those players we won't realise how good he is until we lose him. New GK and LB absolute necessities for me and at least 1 central defender(I would go for 2 personally). We can't rely on Shawx being a regular starter and plans should be put in place for that in this window. Not sure we really have a viable central defender at the club if we disregard Shawx. For me, the defence has just been neglected for too long and we need to be looking at viable options in each position, which we simply do not have at the moment, and competition for places also - something we have not had in defence for years at the club. For some reason, this is the 1st manager in a while that gives me a bit of hope that he will sort that defence out, but he will have a battle with the backroom staff and those that bring in the new faces - who all, historically, see defence as somewhere midfielders and strikers can play in and not really a relevant area that needs any attention.

The absence of a proper left back has upset the balance of the whole team all season. Despite Denis Smith's vote of confidence I think Indi is shit at left back and looks extremely slow and vulnerable when isolated 1 vs 1.We still have 4 or 5 piles of shit on the books that we need to offload and I'd still like to see a lot more pace in wide areas and a genuinely destructive DM.

Great analysis, FM.
As we all know, the squad is too big and expensive. I suspect the "ins" will absolutely depend on the "outs".
I agree with the majority - we look short at LB.
Realistically we need to survive this season, which I think we will, (dare I say fairly comfortably?) then have a real push next season. It will be much easier to go up with our parachute than without it - if you see what I mean.
For that to happen, I personally think we need our Lionheart warrior Ryan Shawcross to stay fit and form a solid partnership with one of the other CBs.
As always I'm optimistic, but interesting times ahead...

I woul like to see a ball playing centre half and a left back as priority.

After watching the Brentford game again, I thought Lindsay's passing looked much more crisp and assured than usual?.

I woul like to see a ball playing centre half and a left back as priority. We tried to get one of those last window.
We ended up with Lindsay.
Are we at all confident that we have someone that knows what they're actually doing, actually doing our transfers?
Even a combination of TS, Noddy & Big Ears could 'manage' on our LB predicament however.

In the circumstances, the only one that I could really see at this point as more likely than not is a left-back (although, to argue against that, we're not seeing any links at all there apart from that random bloke from Stromsgodset)
Then a midfielder if Allen goes And a striker if Gregory goes.

Yup. Heads should roll if we don't get a LB in - with the obvious caveat that he loves Indi & / or Tymon becomes the new Robertson after x6 week's intensive coaching.
Personally, I wouldn't sell Allen - obvious caveat: unless Baroness Brainless of E17 waddled in with an absolute barrow load of cash (as in 'get us out of a massive FFP pickle' cash). & btw she won't, haven't they just loaned that bloke from Benfica?
He loves Fat Sam clearly and (I think) we can see his M.O. here: decide on a player for a given spot, back him and stick with him to get games while he discovers his form - obvious caveat: could be a while with SV.
So could be a big, fat zilch on the incomings after all?

Links to Jones and Clarke suggest an interest in an additional winger, links to Evans and Laurent suggest an interest in an additional central midfielder.
So far we've lost CCV, Badou and Etebo, with Hogan pending and rumours of Diouf on his way out. MON already thinks the squad is too big and is talking up giving more game time to Campbell, Verlinden and Ngoy.
If we lost no more, our only really desperate need is for a left back. If Jack, Joe, Gregs or others go, we may see more newcomers.

I think the primary objective in this window is to get rid of as many of this bloated squad as possible. Forget new signings until the summer - O'Neill will keep us up then we can build for next season - lets face it we are not going down and we are not going up - whats the big urge to sign players.

Well it looks to me like he's going to go with BMI as left back until end of season with Ward as back up.

I think it's largely a subtraction game we're in.

Given ffp. I think MON is looking at whether or not, he can keep us up with the players we have. Frustrations aside, I believe fully, that we have more than enough to not go down. That's leaves the decision, does he then spend money on a player or players, that would most likely be stop gap players( bringing in more average players on contracts) or does he stick with what we have, in the hope we stay up, then leaving a better budget for next season. I think it will loan players in only, hence the desire to get rid of all loans currently here. Difficult to judge, but I think we have seen enough in terms of performance change to think we are not going down. Start MONs rebuild in the summer for me. Exactly, lets get rid first!

Can we afford to spend or increase our wage bill even if it just on loans?

7 out, and 3 in. 2 defensive players and 1 Striker . Butland will probably ride out his contract and then leave as a free agent.
