I have now been a Stoke fan for close to 60 years through thick and thin but i have now decided to leave the fold. The reasons are many and varied but mainly the bile and vitriol thrown in the direction of fellow supporters on this message board and to players wearing the club colours who are deemed to be legitimate targets for all sorts of abuse. I can now no longer sit in the stands at Stoke and feel comfortable that the person next to me is not one of the hateful people with extreme views. As many on here must know i am 100% remain in the EU and this to has come into my decision also as i can no longer feel at ease wearing the colours of a city known as the Brexit capital. Perhaps Donald Tusk was speaking about Stoke City when he said there is a place in hell for those who voted Brexit as things have only gone in one direction since that time. I will still take a mild interest in the clubs fortunes from afar(i have never lived less than 45 miles away) but that is all.

Yes it's best to surround yourself by people who agree with you. People have their different opinions politically but fuck me i wouldn't judge them for it. People will and always will be in different situations and see things differently and maybe there is truth in both or all sides but you seem to have gone down the ' i know better than you route'. Good luck anyway, it's your opinion it just doesn't seem a very tolerant one.

I shall be renewing next season but see where you are coming from skem. I too am disappointed at the hate shown in so many quarters at the moment. Used to be proud to say I came from the area but alas no longer. Neanderathal attitudes too prevalent.

Completely agree with your point, the only way to change opinion is to challenge it, and try to educate and show the other side, whilst respecting the views of others (so long as it isn't an inflammatory, racist, homophobic etc opinion) However I can completely understand those who are just giving up on both the football, and the fans, some of the things I hear around me are from the dark ages, it's disgraceful (and yes I do report it) I'm a gay bloke and some of the vitriol I hear makes it incredibly uncomfortable to enjoy what limited offering there is to enjoy on the pitch.

My thoughts exactly i have been following Stoke since the mid sixties & have seen some good & bad times but nothing like this. Losing used to hurt me badly & would cause arguments between me & my wife for a few days afterwards but now you expect it everytime we play. I have not experienced any abuse in the ground but have heard from friends of conflict between different factions of our support. I lay the blame firmly with the Coates family they have overseen one of the biggest failures in football with the wealth that they have they have taken penny pinching & doing things on the cheap to a new level. I refer to the recruitment of managers & the fact that a big name appointment after Hughes would have probably avoided relegation & all the wasted money spent by Rowett & Jones. I will no doubt be taken to task on my views but thats the way i see it a golden opportunity missed through a lack of ambition.

The club is going through a bad patch. That's all. Most of us have been alive for long enough to understand that difficult times are followed by good times, and often the best of times. It will all fix itself in the fullness of time. Sometimes you have to take a back seat and view your world from a long term perspective.

I guess that there are many of us who wish that they could escape from the grip of Stoke city FC,in the present. Those of us who can remember the Waddington era or what i am going to call the Fuller/ Delap era recognise that there are good periods. And I think we take a bit of pride in the Stoke identity....we do things a bit differently ( most cultures would probably say that). To try to escape isn't a rational decision but emotional. I wish you all the best for the future. Up the Potters.

It's not an airport, you don't have to announce your departure If every football supporter didn't support there team because of political views then the grounds would be empty, how many Arsenal fans actually live in Corbyn's Islington
