My main issue with Joe Allen is that he doesn’t read the game at all and is therefore constantly out of position. He compensates for that with his work rate & on a good day that’s enough. Sadly those good days don’t come along anywhere near often enough. Contrast him with someone like Nzonzi who you never saw haring around like a deranged Tasmanian Devil but who always seemed to be in the right place at the right time.
Joe Allen’s first touch is also embarrassing for someone who claims to be a professional footballer.

Our best player tonight. Again... Keep your hate for those that deserve it. Haters gonna hate... He's a proven top class footballer. He gives his all for our team every game! I thought if a player does that we will stay behind them? Everyone makes mistakes not just Joe! All you haters will miss his quality and effort levels when he's gone. The same people who hated Walters week in week out. Get behind them all wether were shit or not, January will see more shit houses out our club so that will be progression...

The quality that has assisted in taking us from 9th in the Premiership to third bottom of the championship? That quality? The quality that has been non-existent for the entirety of his time here and the only time he looked like even a half competent footballer was against Luton fucking Town? And then has the nerve to cup his ears, that quality? The bloke is a charlatan, an utterly shambolic excuse of a footballer and I will genuinely be ecstatic when he finally no longer darkens our doorway again. If we sell him to somewhere in China I’ll drive him and his “quality” there myself. He’s done nothing but ruin this team since day one.

This proven-quality, Premier League-class player, we're so lucky to have at the Club? He rarely impacts a game. He should be bossing the game up against some no-mark midfielder from Barnsley, or Reading, but he just melts into the background, week in & week out. I can't fault his effort. Well, OK, I think he expends a lot of energy looking busy, and achieving nothing - but it's his ability to stand out at this level, I'm looking for. And he just doesn't stand out. And he's been a common thread through our demise, along with a few others, who I'm sure think they're still PL players in their heads - but can't translate that onto the pitch.

The worst signing we have ever made i decided, worse than Berahino.
£13m a lot at the time Disrupted a midfield We have declined massively under him He has been dropped once despite having many more bad games People thinking he's really useful, worst being that includes managers

McClean seems to have gone under the radar with regards to the ear cupping.
He not only cupped his ear but was also shouting something at the crowd when he scored against Luton. He even pushed Clucas away when he went over to try and stop him.
He’s been back to his abysmal best the last couple of games.

The ear cupping is this season’s “what’s all the fuss about?” At least you could say Coates made a dreadful mistake, which he has regretted ever since, and has caused him to be less available for the press and the supporters. He spoke spontaneously which can come back to haunt you. Allen has now cupped his ears twice in different games which means it's not done in the heat of the moment, but is a premeditated action. He probably thinks he's incredibly smart. I can understand his feelings to a degree. The booing and not-fit chanting was misguided and foolish. But he has to rise above it, not make it worse.

McClean seems to have gone under the radar with regards to the ear cupping. That's because there has been little opportunity for him to cup. There was Clucas' goal, but it really should have been McClean's goal. Not exactly a situation for him to gloat.

Clearly Joe Allen isn't the worst player in our squad, nor is he the worst ever signing, but he has never really been the RIGHT player for us. His best role is breaking things up in midfield and arriving late in the box to chip in with a few goals
He has never had the players around him to enable him to play his natural game, and thus has ended up as the "headless chicken" so often. Against a poor Luton team he had much more time and space to do what he is good at...very few sides have allowed him to do that and he hasn't got the physical attributes to counter being pressed. I think Woods has similar issues, nut is potentially a better passer than Joe
It's hard to fault Joe's work rate, albeit most is unproductive, and generally his attitude has been excellent. The 'ear cupping' was ill judged and he should apologise and get on with his job...until he inevitably leaves us. He will do well in the right surroundings...but not ST4

I have to disagree mate, misguided and foolish ? It's a little over 2 years where the same thing was chanted at Stoke station. That day we were humped by Kane, Son and Eriksen. Hull City mullering us was the straw that broke the camel's back. They are lucky to have fans who have been so patient/apathetic

I’m struggling with this one. I am not trying to defend Joe, but I just do not see that he is either the main problem or our worst player. With his ability, he clearly should be doing better for us and leading by example, but there are far bigger issues to resolve. It can be Walters, Whelan, Erik, and in the past couple of seasons Ryan, who become the target of the boo boys and yet we miss them all when they have gone. I think Allen will be the same.
Criticise a poor performance, no problem. Have a go at him for ear cupping, no problem, (but a bit rich from some who give out constant abuse but can’t take anything back to them). Reading some of the comments, worst player in recent times, reason we were relegated, reason for current decline, I just can’t agree with.
By contrast, the swathes of support until the near end for NJ who in my view was one of the biggest disasters of a manger I have witnessed in 50 odd years of watching Stoke baffled me at the time and still does.
Anyway, I can’t see how we get out of this mess, league 1 beckons I’m afraid

Joe Allen is the best player at our club, bar none.Fortunately he has stayed loyal despite the best, or is it worst, efforts of our "Snowflake-Like"fans to harass him. I do not use the word supporter to describe these troublemakers, because that's exactly what they're not. They're disruptive miscreants, with a highly-exagerated perception of their own malicious viewpoint. Bandwagon jumpers, who seek the endorsement of identical and bitter reprobates. I admire Joe for ridiculing this tiny gaggle of myopic neanderthalic subspecies. Joe was not, imho, rebuking the true supporters who are understandably concerned by our current position in this division. He was merely showing his own distaste for the reprehensible and naive behaviour of a petty but sometimes vocal element of misguided dissidents. Well done Joe Allen👍

This is also a player who probably gets the most abuse and the majority of the time it's not for football reasons. He also didn't then come out in the local paper and pretty much say "they deserved the cupping and I aren't bothered I did it. This is all from the vice captain/current captain. It’s alright though, Allen has put in a couple of good games this year so it's fine. 🙄🙄

It isn't about being sensitive or a snowflake or whatever, it's about good people losing their jobs after a bunch of overpaid footballers feel it below them to go out and try their best. Make no mistake, there will be a catastrophic loss of jobs should we drop to League One. Don't worry though, the heroes on the pitch will walk into their next contract alright. Like the rest of them, he is an arsehole that is best served away from this club and I for one can't wait for that day.

Well done Joe, You're one of the highest paid in the club and definitely league. You have managed a couple of good games this year, so give yourself a great pat on the back. You don't have the best touch, vision, pass, shot, cross, tackle and positioning sense but you run so you are the best player at this club. Where do we join this fantastic players fan club, if there is any room left to join that is .....

Our best player tonight. Again... Keep your hate for those that deserve it. What did he do? I’m curious. Did he create any chances? Did he stop there attacking threat? Did he dominate the midfield with pace and power? I can safely say no, no and no. Bargain at 65k a week. He was the only one who looked like doing something in the first half. I can tell you, all the things you listed he achieved in that first 45 minutes.
