Have reached record high in the UK with 18 deaths so far this will probably increase with more use. Is it poor policing, poor man management, more violent public or just a necessary piece of equipment nowadays? Do people think they should be banned or handed out to a very few specific officers or all police should have one? www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-50862398

To be honest with the dwindling numbers of police officers and lower penalties for assaulting officers I think its essential.
I've seen a few clips over the 12 months where cops have used the taser in extremely violent situations that could have ended very differently.

When I was in the job we were just issued with a piece of wood to hit people with, it had other uses as well but only ever used it as intended once. Tasers have the benefit of being able to keep your distance from the individual you're intending to restrain / stop. Has to be a result. No training supplied with the truncheon.

It's a top piece of kit and works as intended. I wholeheartedly believe all cops should have one.I used one fired one and its saved me more than once.

No problem with them at all. Exactly. I've never been tasered, but then I've never put myself in the position of behaving like a monumental bell-end, which has required it.

If you behave like a complete wanker and get aggressive, then for me the taser is acceptable. It allows police to keep a safe distance away from the person in question.
No problems here.

Just ref the "deployments" purely uncliping the holster is classed and being deployed, just taking it out of the holster is classed as a deployment dont confuse use/deployment with being fired. I carried one for 5 years or so and fired it twice and on both occasions it resolved the issue WITHOUT injury.
People DO NOT LIKE BEING ARRESTED and fight more often than not be that by threats and intimidation or in actual physical fights and it saved me from the possibility of a good hiding more than once

I want to put a 'BRAVO' icon after ALL the above responses to the OP.
We can never do enough to back up and protect our police officers - let's face it, they do more than a hell of a job (which not many of US could do) and can literally be risking their lives simply every time they go to work, which can go from one end of the scale to the other, the worst scenario being the vile, violent scum of the earth they so often have to deal with. As far as I'm concerned, if tasers and pepper spray can help the police to defend themselves while getting their hellishly difficult and dangerous job done then that makes them an absolutely essential piece of kit for all officers to freely have at their disposal.
There are quite a few TV progs at the moment where cameras accompany police officers whilst on duty, and they're all real eye-openers. I just don't know how they do it. I applaud every single one of them.
