Is he a wide player, striker?
If we do take a punt, it's nice to see we're not just going for washed up ex prem players on huge money.
Everyone else seems to be able to pluck gems from non league so why not us?

You sure know we are no longer in the big time when you find yourself rummaging through the small print in the Hastings Observer for news of our latest signing. Anyone else remember far back enough to when we signed Peter Griffiths from non-league Bideford in Devon? It was also a time when we were trying to escape the second flight. I never forget Alan Durban writing in the programme notes at the time 'I think we have unearthed a little gem here'. It took about 3 weeks before he became, not very affectionately, known as 'scrote'

The article is from June. Was 100% in Stoke for a few days. Better sort of character than most of the wasters in the first team. Almost certainly one for the U23's.

It's not as if we're already well stocked in the generic central midfield position 🤔🙄 But if Etebo and Badou depart in January we will be much less well stocked. And if the rumoured big bids for Allen materialise, we may be positively threadbare.

Mind you if we replace any of the 3 World Cup players you mention with a callow youth from Hastings United it will be hard to escape the thought we're getting in to gear for division 3. If he's simply another warm body for the U23's who may come good then fine, worth a punt perhaps.

It's not as if we're already well stocked in the generic central midfield position 🤔🙄 But if Etebo and Badou depart in January we will be much less well stocked. And if the rumoured big bids for Allen materialise, we may be positively threadbare. The hope would be that we would bring in 2 to replace aside from this kid - namely one who's a holding mid and one who can go box to box. Looks like Badou and Etebo will be gone, hopefully Allen (massive wages and poor for us this season, been good for Wales so a prem club might chance their arm for 5 mill) and Woods (not the player we need at the moment - need someone with more presence, physicality and vision) will be close behind. If we were to go to a midfield 2 behind Powell, 2 wingers and 1 up top, or even a flat 442, we would have the 2 new boys, Cousins, Clucas and Sorensen. In a 3 it would be a holding mid, centre mid and Clucas, with Cousins as cover for the holding role and Sorensen hopefully getting a chance to compete too. Problem is, we have neglected the midfield (and the left back role) for far too long - there's been a few in but no one really up to the job, so what's the odds we bring in 2 Strikers, a carthorse centre-half and a winger? As for young Lovatt - he's probably going to be a good 12 months from even thinking of making an impact first-team wise. Instead of chucking him in with the kids, I would get him out on loan to a conference club for the rest of the season, with the hope he does well and loan him out again first half of next season to a league 2 club. If he impresses there, then he can't be too far off reckoning for a place in and around the squad.

There are many players playing at a lower level than the Championship that would improve our team. Take Grice currently at Leek Town, he easily has better finishing than any of our strikers, plus his positional and hold up play are probably better too. But in the higher leagues you need pace as a bare minimum, which all of our strikers lack.

Look at Charlie Austin, he was at Poole town when he got found.

Hastings United star Adam Lovatt completed a two day trial at Championship club Stoke City last weekend.
Lovatt spent time training at the Bet365 Stadium outfit and has impressed with the Potters looking to possibly bring in the exciting prospect to the club in the January transfer window.
The U's defensive midfielder has previously been on trial at Leeds United and Brighton and Hove Albion and the recent trial shows how highly rated the United midfielder is.
Hastings United CEO Billy Wood said: "Adam went for a trial with Stoke, from all accounts it went well.
"Of course as a club we want to keep our best players but you also have to care about the human aspect too.
"If some of our talented players have the opportunity to change their life we will do what we can to make it happen without leaving our club vulnerable.
"Adam is one example of a few players I believe can play higher up and we may not get up to the level as quick as their careers need, therefore we have to respect that and support them.
"I hope the players know that from top to bottom at this club we care for their futures as well as this football club. "

If he's used to non-League standard football it would have felt like 'home from home' at Stoke
