The rumour is that Messi has won it this year. There's nothing new about Messi winning of course, but there's still something new in the selection.
In bygone days the award winner was only ever given to great players that were models of good behaviour, and up until this year, Messi has been exactly that.
But this year he was given a 3 month suspension from international football for Argentina for saying that referees and officials at the CONMEBOL were currupt. He might or might not be right, but he did not have any evidence, so he did come out very badly and definitely hasn't been "a good boy" for kids everywhere to look up to and aspire to become like.
So it's a little surprising if he does indeed win it.
Ironically his main rival down through the years, CR7, has also been a bad boy of late, although that's nothing new.

I think voicing displeasure at seemingly corrupt officiating is in fact an honorable thing to do. Having the courage of your convictions is something I hope my Grandchildren develop as they grow into adulthood. I mean it's not like he head-butted an opponent during a world cup final or spat on someone or took a bite of them, is it. I think it's 100% correct to keep football awards based on what happens on the football field.

My all-time favorite is Crouchies comment about now he knows why he never won the award during the Blatter corruption scandal.

Don’t suppose Tom Ince is in the running this time He'd get it, switch back on to his left foot, then give it to Danny Batth and point.

Don’t suppose Tom Ince is in the running this time Close your eyes for a minute and just imagine Tom Ince actually got the prize. What could he possibly say about that?

Doesn’t matter what he does. Messi is, and should, win it this year because he was the best player in the world last season. That he hasn’t won it for so long is borderline criminal.

I don't know what he'd say,but he'd probably go and stand as close as possible to Messi and Ronaldo so no one would contemplate passing him the trophy...

Yes. At this stage. Kane could grow into the world's best. It'd be interesting see how Kane would cope overseas with the different challenges it'd present Lewandowski is certainly the most consistent goal scorer over a long, long time now. By an odd occurence I turned my TV on to German satelite - or was it eurosport - after about half an hour of the game in 2014. It was very strange as I normally don't like watching German football anymore. But in the next 10 minutes Lewandowski scored 5 goals vs Wolfsburg, who at the time was a top team. Then the game went back to the same old passing everywhere going nowhere. Any way if Lewandowski is ever going to win it it needs to be soon, as he's 32 and will be losing pace soon.

Kane just wants to play for Spurs Le'ts see what transpires over the next couple of years. I suppose if Mourinho returns to his old ways at some point, he could effectively drive Kane out of the spud he loves.

Can only see Kane’s career being at Spurs throughout, only other place I could see him is at Man Utd. At some point they’ve got to flash the cash to kee the foreign fans happy!

Stoke have their own version called the Barn Door. Where our strikers try and hit one from three paces. Not looking too good so far!
