Cant comment on last 60 years but on the last 50 years 1. Waddington 2. Pulis 3. Hughes 4. Macari
In terms of enjoyment (I;m too young for the adds years) Macari (just a magical time to follow Stoke) Pulis Hughes Gudjon

Depends how you define 'success' Thoughts, please... Doing well in (the now called) league one under Macari? Good times but hardly success!

"Most successful". It just has to be Waddo, Hughes and TP doesn't it? The Macari days were loads of fun, but don't really compare to what the three listed achieved.

Had Lou been backed he'd have taken us to the Premier.

It’s all about who did best with what they had in front of them and in that light Macari is up there with the best . In my time he, Waddo, TP, and Durban were the guys who really gave you the feeling they knew what they were doing and gave the club some sense of direction. The likes of Hughes and even good old Mick Mills had spells when they really got to grips with things and either stopped the rot or moved things forward. Like most clubs of our size we’ve had good and not so good.

Sorry it's got to be TP. Getting us from the championship, safe in season one with games to spare, growing into an established premier league side (and the expectations because of it), The final of the FA Cup run and European football not to make up the numbers but getting out of the group, the only english team to do so that season.
Bring Back TP LoL
