York City are my 2nd team. If the Potters aren't playing and York are, I'm usually there. As an aside, what a contrast between the fortunes of the two teams !. Stoke bottom of our league. York are 8 points clear at the top of National League North and haven't lost any of their 19 games in all competitions this season.
There have been a lot more players who played for both clubs than you would imagine. Denis (Smith) is a legend at both. Got 100 points when taking York up (he is I think the only manager to get 100 points with two different clubs ? ).
Anyway, York played Kidderminster today ( 1 all draw). I was surprised to see Ollie Shenton on the bench for Kiddy. He came on for the last few minutes. I think that when he came on for his Stoke City Premier League debut against Man City, neither he nor most of us would have imagined that these few years later he would only be a substitute for a club in the lower half of the 6th level of the pyramid. It's not really worked out as predicted for him.

Shows how hard it is to spot a real prospect. So many varying factors to consider which are all changing as they get older. So many talented footballers who simply haven't had the right discipline or dedication.

Why? He can’t even make the staring 11 for Kidderminster. He had a really tough family time, and my heart goes out to him for that, but footballing wise he clearly isn’t good enough.

For gods sake the guy is in his early twenties and you're already binning him off. Can I remind you of players like Jamie Vardy who played lower tier football and still made it to the top. I know it is unlikely but give the guy time, he might turn good.

Well, he's a full time professional footballer, so the term "wank" is hardly appropriate as he's a lot better than most of us could ever have aspired to, even though he's now playing at a much lower professional level than it once looked like he might. But why be unpleasantly abusive about it ? As drfootball said, it's just unnecessary

Like the past 5 threads and so on have done about his career.

It would be interesting to know at which end of the process our Academy system fails (as it most certainly does). Do the players brought into it not have the necessary potential or do they have it and we fail to develop it?

I Remember there being the same clamour to play Ollie then as there is to play Tyrese now. My thoughts at the time then with Ollie were as they are with Tyrese now ... not good enough 😔
Shame for Ollie as I played football with his Dad, and I really wanted him to do well.

Do the players brought into it not have the necessary potential or do they have it and we fail to develop it? I'd say its a bit of both. Something is going wrong somewhere though because very little comes out of our academy. It's really quite depressing when you see other clubs academies producing talent.

Did you not know having a second team is not allowed on here at all!!!!!. For quite sometime I have been criticised mercilessly and ruthlessly for daring to quote Wrexham (presently a non league club) as my second club. So, if you dare to post such things in here, I just hope you have got your tin hat with you. (Sad but true)

Nobody has yet had a go - and it wouldn't make any difference if they did.

U23 league is a waste of time. As soon as the lads show any promise they should be loaned out for some real world action.Get them playing against experienced players in competitive leagues at 16,17,18

Like the past 5 threads and so on have done about his career. To answer your question, I started the thread only because I thought fellow stokies would be interested to learn where he is now playing, as I was. It wasn't obvious to me, and certainly wasn't my intention, that anyone would insult him, but perhaps I'm just a naïve old soul.

Remember a midweek league cup tie against Portsmouth for 4 reasons 1. Victor Moses made his debut and looked a class above everybody 2. Ollie Shelton came on as a sub and I truly believed that finally we had a star amongst our ranks from within 3. I was driving home from Northern Ireland to Plumpton that day and was so chuffed that I could stop off at the Brit 4. When I got home, I found out , whilst I had been away, we had been burgled
It wasn’t the greatest of days, but i won’t forget the feeling of optimism and pride I had when Ollie Shelton came on as sub. However, as I found out that night, things don’t always end up as expected. Good luck to the lad, whatever happens, he will be one of our own

Good luck to him, Chorley are a decent club for that level, given most of us only watched him for 10 seconds we will never be sure how good he was or wasnt, however it does show that theres a lack of progression between academy and first team at the club.
