... can we please agree to give them a fair shake of the stick? This club is an absolute Omnishambles (courtesy of BlackpoolRed - the word, not the mess ). We cannot expect someone to waltz in and have everyone singing from the same hymn sheet immediately. What's a fair shake? For the most impatient, I'd say at least till the end of the transfer window, for normal people ...probably the rest of the season.

Everyone of the new managers at Stoke in the last 8 years has been given a fair crack. That’s what we do. If they don’t do the business then they will be treated accordingly.

Well, he can't be any worse than NJ can he? The new man will be here for the season and I will judge him on the following criteria.
Now till January - how the new man does with this group compared with Jones (for example Rowett, although not as successful as many had hoped, with hindsight didn't do that badly with the group that NJ inherited and took backwards) I'll honestly be happy with us just closing in the gap so we can at least be in touch going into January.
Signings - I'll be wanting to see holes plugged in this group with solid, if not spectacular signings who come in, do their job and sweat blood for our club. Priorities for me are a proper left back and cover in midfield.
January to the end of the season - I will want to see the signings improve what we have and hopefully add a new dimension to us. With time to bed in and a few of the new managers men in as well, I will want to see an improvement in results and hopefully performances, with at least the guts to fight till the last with this relegation battle.

Thing is, through no fault of his own he's going need hit the ground running fairly soon if he's going to get us out of this mess we are in
No 'free hits' as Jones had last season

Mad Nath needed every game to be a free hitter, and it got him precisely nowhere. As long as we are running on all cylinders come January ....

If we dont beat WBA, he's got to go. Reporter: "What's the thinking behind sacking Chris Hughton a minute and a half after he signed his contract?" Scholes: "Well, the mention of his name before the game last weekend did not produce the desired effect, and after being accused of acting too slowly in the past, the owners are determined to show this is not the case - We have indeed learned lessons from the past."

By us the fans? I was among those shouting down TP when he returned before a ball had even been kicked. MH had people wanting him out before his first game, PL - some were disgusted at his appointment and calling for his head a few games in. GR? Did we really give him a fair crack? In hindsight, I don't think so. NJ, he has had the most tolerance shown of all of them, probably because we all desperately wanted it to work. No matter who it is, even TP, I for one will be with them "...every step along the way."

No matter who it is, even TP, I for one will be with them "...every step along the way." I repeat. Every Manager has had a fair crack of the whip. There was good support for all during their respective Honeymoon periods. Rowett and Hughes lost the support due to inept points returns and derogatory comments towards the fans. The suggestion that fans are the problem by not supporting our Managers is laughable. They need to earn it, like everyone else.

And I repeat, When people are calling for the manager's head before they have even played a game, how is that giving them a fair chance? How can a manager earn the loyalty if people make up their minds before they get a chance to earn it? By the way, nowhere do I blame the fans. I am just sick and tired of the constant bickering that goes on. Can we give the new man a fair chance? I'm not holding my breath.

Everyone will be behind an appointment like Neill, Moyes or Hughton.
it will be rank appointments the likes of Pulis, Coleman, Pards etc that will divide people.

Whoever it is, this has to work If we go down this year(and I think our squad is full of exactly the wrong type of player for the dog fight we are in,) then as a result of FFP compliance, we will be in Div 2 by 2022. I don’t care who it is so long as he is a bona fide miracle worker.

Well I think this thread will make all the difference personally.
People who previously might have been critical of the manager, whether it's the capped one or someone new, and whatever style of football or results we get, I think they'll look back to this thread and realise how wrong they were in their initial thought and immediately offer generous support and constructive, if cautious advice.
Because that's the way it's always worked on football message boards...
