Analysing the current position, it's easy to apportion blame on individuals. Perhaps the more difficult view is identifying the club-wide problem including players, coaches, management and board. With one or two exceptions it seems that some just don't care. This is not a Stoke City-only problem but endemic throughout league football. The main issue is probably money, which may have caused some to have lost sight of their purpose. Performance related contracts have little effect and until the huge sums of money being poured into the game are more limited, we at least know the dross to be served upon the fans.

Is it really an unspoken fear among the players, or are they actually oblivious to the very real threat of a second relegation in three years?
Performances like this, against a Millwall side rolling their sleeves that bit higher, suggests the players aren’t taking the threat seriously enough or, far worse, don’t really give two hoots.
The past week suggests Stoke remain in freefall, that those back-to-back wins over Swansea and Fulham were mere respite from the slog awaiting all those with the club at heart over the next six months.
That the players, as a collective, should be having to prove they too have the heart is a damning indictment and one patently shared by their embattled manager.
If they are playing for his future, days like this suggest they have an odd way of showing it.
A better side than Millwall would have won more comfortably - unless the manager is right when suggesting too many Stoke players perform better against better teams less likely to out-battle them.
Frankly, if we are to rely on the points they gain against the better teams in a poor Championship then we might as well accept relegation here and now.
For this squad, bar the odd game, has shown thus far that they have neither the brawn nor the brain to beat enough teams to win enough points to stay up.

I know, and summat needs doing about our situation bloody quickly or we are going to spiral downwards endlessly. Its actually very bloody concerning now. Something needs doing. |

This group of players don't care. They get relegated, and they're that good they're bound to be snapped up by another Champ or even PL club.

The only club stupid enough to buy most of these players was US, and the only way we're going to get shut of most of these players is by just letting their contracts run out!!!
It's that worrying, I mean, which fuckin idiot decided to give a 28yr old McClean a FOUR year contract??? He wasn't good enough at 28, god knows what he'll be like at 32???
(I'm not singling out McClean, I'm just using him as an example!!!)

I still can't fathom the silence from the club.
We are drowning here and no lifeline has been thrown.
More worryingly for me is that I have also become completely apathetic about the whole thing. It's just not like me, but I feel too punch drunk to get wound up about it as clearly nobody at the club appears to give a shit.
We are in an extremely serious situation, and no amount of optimism from anyone can change that.
The Oatcake message board has had it's ups and downs over the years with opinions pissed on by others over any subject, but now, at one of our darkest moments, even the usual suspects on here with far more energy than me have curled up in a corner with their security blankets awaiting the inevitable.
These are desperate times.

Lambert, Rowett and Jones have all said there serious issues within the club which need to be addressed.
Just exactly what are these issues they allude to.
When we got into the prem other clubs looked at us with envy and we were regarded as a really well run club.
Apart from managers, the actual structure of the club should be the same
It's not the same , it's as if someone has pressed an implode button.
I know JC has taken on more of a role with Uncle Peter stepping back ,
I just wish someone will come out and explain the mess.
I won't be holding my breath though.

They've sacked 4 managers in around 6 years, invested millions in new players and given the club ten years in the PL.
The managers they appointed all had good records, Pulis, Hughes, Lambert, Rowett and Jones, under the the first two we enjoyed some of the best years in our history.
The fact that there has been a serious decline means the owners have made mistakes, but to suggest the Coates family doesn't care or has run the club badly in the last twelve years is plain wrong.
