Greetings all
Early days but Jones seems to have found the winning formula by dropping Butland, Ince and McLean (who knew?). However the bench is thin so let’s not get too carried away. He has good options up front and centre half, but not much on right and left back. However, midfield is a worry. Lose Badou or Etebo and we have nobody anywhere near close to replace them. We have a chance of keeping them in January if we move up the table and look like having a chance of the playoffs. If we get in the playoffs we’ll get promoted. The next three games are critical. We are half way through a run of six tough games. We have won two and should have beaten Forest because we played them off the park in the first half only to capitulate in the second. We play better against top teams who don’t sit back and rely on break away goals.

The back to back wins against two of the top teams have come as an enormous relief, and will hopefully be a turning point for the rest of the season. The team is looking better in both defence and attack, in particular I was very happy for Tyrese Campbell with his first league goal for Stoke City. The major problems are still there however, and it is not at all clear on what happens about Jack Butland. This week there was a thread on the Oatcake about John Farmer whose personal story seems to have some parallel in what is now happening to Jack Butland. Farmer looked like another Banks in the making when he first established himself as a teenager in the first team.Later he lost confidence and started making mistakes which were not evident when he first came into the team. This later resulted in the purchase of Gordon Banks as Waddo lost patience. . The reason given on this thread was bullying by Maurice Setters. i have no knowledge of this but if true it does not reflect well on Setters, who was one of, if not the hardest man ever to play for Stoke. John Farmer did recover sufficiently to become a good first team keeper, but never in my opinion scaled the heights he showed as a teenager. Butland scaled similar heights when he first came into the team a few years back, but it now remains to be seen if he can regain what he had before his broken ankle. If he is sold at a bargain price, as former player Clive Clarke has recommended should happen to streamline the present over sized asquad, perhaps Joe Bursik is ready to take his place? Afterall he will now be about the same age as John Farmer when he first made his debut for Stoke in the mid 1960s.

Evening guys, hope you’re both well..
What a couple of weeks it’s been hasn’t it, crazy how quick things can change. I know we’re still second from bottom but I came out that ground yesterday so In love and connected with the team.
I was walking away from the ground just grinning like a Cheshire Cat, I’m desperate to just run on the pitch and hug jones - weird I know but I love the man! My misses keeps telling me do it in the hope I’ll get a 3 year ban so she won’t have to listen to me moaning all the time!
I’ve got some mates in Holland and every week before the game they text me saying good luck and after the game hard luck. But yesterday I was walking over the green bridge I had a little look at the stadium all lit up and the message came through congratulations mate. It nearly made me cry!!
To most people they’ll never understand how much it means to us but those that do, enjoy - we deserve this!
City til the very fucking end!!

Question for you both,Is having less possession(22% yesterday)the way forward for this team or was it just because it was Fulham? Tactically spot on yesterday from Nathan in my opinion and it’s no coincidence that we’re no longer carrying Ince and McClean. Badou is the man that’s made the difference for me because he’s absolute quality and provides the defensive shield we’ve been wanting for 12 months

You beat me to it Ange. I was just about to post about Ndiaye. There've been times when I've thought we should have banished him to clean out the toilets. He might not have said much, but his agent had been gobbing off negatively from when we were relegated.
All that's forgotten now, for the time being at least. At this level the guy's a monster. If the upturn in the team's form is down to one main thing, then it's got to be his return to the team.
Loved Nathan's celebration by the way. We stayed behind just to see it. We'd have been disappointed if he'd just walked off down the tunnel. Good on yer Nath.

Another great win, and team performance.
Thoughts on Campbell ? Great in 1st half but ineffective and lethargic in the 2nd half, almost from the restart. How can he drop off the pace so quickly ? Proving literally to be just a 60 minute player that the manager hinted at earlier in the season. If that’s the case then Hogan needs to be brought on earlier as Nathan Jones delay in bringing him on yesterday allowed them to build from the back and get a hold of the game.

We seem to have forgotten about Angela’s knickers which were the main topic of conversation last season. I’ll give a tenner for them and pick them up in January!

They're human at the end of the day. It's tedious having a brief read of the oatcake every now and then, nevermind having to talk about how bad Stoke are for 2 hours a week.

Regarding Maurice Setters, my old man regails me with the tails of him and Setters in The Kings Troop Royal Horse Artillery. The old fossil dines out on the story of decking Setters in the stables and then chucking him in the horseshit pit in the stables at St.Johns Wood, for giving it the big un about how the RHA was beneath him. He only gobbled off once to the old man 😂 The old man was a lead driver of 6 horses and Setters tried to bully the other the new recruits into eating horseshit sandwiches, filling their boots with horseshit and other ‘ceremonial’ duties. Every time he saw him on the Telly with Jack Charlton in his ROI days the dulcet tones of ‘Fuck off Setters’ would come out of his mouth A thoroughly unlike able character was Setters
