Correct, and it won't be done this year either.

Not even via the play offs?
Promotion is not yet a mathematical impossibility

We’d broadly need to win 3, draw 1, lose 1 from every block of 5 games for the rest of the season to make the play offs.

2 wins & some people are getting really carried away. I think a little bit of reality is needed we are still in the bottom three & getting out of the relegation zone is the first objective. Talking about top 2 or play off places is a pipe dream at the moment lets just take one step at a time.

Looking at how much you rate The Capped One, I’d have thought yesterday’s performance would have shown that NJ does have what you think it takes by TP standards. Less than 25% possession, and reducing Fulham’s pretty passing side to zero attempts on our goal for the whole of the first half. Personally, I don’t believe Jones’ job is under threat, or he would have gone last month. It was clear that he has the players on his side and there is a demonstrable change in the atmosphere around the ground. If we get four points from the next two games, that’s four unbeaten and a corner turned.

Can you imagine if we actually put a run together and managed promotion..... some of our fans would be suicidal. They already hate the fact we’ve won 2 on the bounce

Automatic promotion is long gone. But promotion by the play offs is possible - certainly not probable, but possible. We are 7 points off a mid table position and with a decent run we could be mid table before Christmas. And there have certainly been a few cases where mid table teams after 23 games have reached the playoffs at the end of the season. It would take a dramatic improvement in our results but I suppose it depends upon whether we really have better players than our first 10 results suggested.
I'm a very cautious man by nature so I won't be rushing out and placing a bet on us reaching the playoffs but looking at the fairly dramatic changes in fortune over (admittedly only) the past two games - I'm sure that the addition of Badou to the squad, his partnership with Etebo and the decision to bench Ince and Maclean, have produced a side which really is much stronger and with a better shape than anything we have seen until recently. A settled squad, playing well by Christmas should then be improved with a couple of key signings in January. We must hope that January does not see the departure of Badou and Etebo as those two look like the midfield engine room we have needed for a while.

If we get four points from the next two games, that’s four unbeaten and a corner turned. FFP has saved him. I think we are sailing very close to the wind and the cost of sacking him and his staff and getting someone else in may have landed us in the shit. So Rowett has effectively saved him.

Is 50 points still the accepted "safety target" in this league? If so we still need another 42, or 14 wins, or 10 wins and 12 draws. If we achieve that quickly, then maybe, just maybe, we can think about better outcomes...shit, I sound like TP

Didn't Keane get Sunderland promoted from a similar position a few years back?

It doesn't, but we can all agree that team selection and tactics have baffled most of us but you can't deny that we could easily have at least another 7 points maybe 10 but bad luck keepimg errors etc have cost us badly!

We are second bottom having won two games in months and months.
Escaping relegation has to be the first job.

Its very unlikely but for the sake of keeping Ndiaye and Etebo at the end of the season we could do with it, it's going to be a big ask to replace those two next season.

Can you imagine if we actually put a run together and managed promotion..... some of our fans would be suicidal. They already hate the fact we’ve won 2 on the bounce That’s complete and utter bollocks- don’t you think a thread about possible promotion for a side that has just won two on the spin for the first time in 15 months and currently sits in the bottom 3 is a little bit over the top? Following the logic of thread Huddersfield Town ( 4 unbeaten including 4 points out of 6 away from home) are likely Champions. Our total failure to face reality is why people seemed to think that our relegation would see us winning a shed load of games and why now we think we are world beaters- another 8 wins by Christmas would give us an outside chance at the playoffs, but secure our position in the Championship. Let’s see where we are at the start of January- but to say people hate the fact that we have won 2 on the trot is further proof of why we are regarded as the Monkey Dust capital of Britain.
