Another reason to be proud of Stoke-on-Trent
Cabin crew and passengers have told how they were left feeling 'very nervous' as a Stoke-on-Trent dad went on a drunken mid-flight rant.
Fellow holiday-makers say they noticed Muhamed Azam visit the toilet an 'unusual number of times' as he shouted about the 'afterlife' and 'Muslim principles'.
The 37-year-old also hurled abuse at the captain, kicked a seat and claimed a glass of orange juice he was given was watered down during the five-hour flight from Manchester Airport to Morocco.
At one point he falsely accused two air hostesses of being racist when they refused his request for a full bottle of orange juice to top up a secret vodka bottle stashed beneath his seat.

Pathetic ,you really need to get another hobby duck, instead of searching out newspaper snippets of the Asian persuasion. You really do need help,I feel a little sorry for you to be honest as your entire life seems to be dominated by your fear.

It’s ok, cities like Stoke-on-Trent and Liverpool can fill the void of EU finding by borrowing from their own government going forward for regeneration projects.....

Liverpool is a fantastic city. And here are some of examples of projects either funded or part funded with EU cash: Albert Docks regeneration Queen Square Liverpool John Lennon Airport South Parkway Bus/Train Station Liverpool Echo Arena Liverpool Cruise Liner Terminal St George's Hall The Bluecoat Liverpool Anglican Cathedral £285 European Social Fund cash over 1,200 small projects across the city. £700m Object One Funding. I'm pretty sure the people that live in the city understand this as well, contributing to a 58.2% remain vote. Well that and the fact that they don't get brainwashed into a load of Sun propaganda about bendy bananas and all that shite...........

It won't be Stoke-on-Trent, Liverpool, Burnley, Hull etc that's for sure. I'm not being dismissive of anyone, I fully understand why someone for example from Stoke-on-Trent who has seen the area he lives in fall into deprivation, his wage stagnate, his rent go up would think "what have the EU ever done for me?" I'm merely highlighting there's no magic bullet, and that the redistribution of our contribution to the EU on a fair basis is a myth.....

So it's "up to" those figures based on successful applications, not a confirmed figure just to clarify. And to put it into context those local governments have seen £200m worth of cuts over the last 8 years. Seems like shameless electioneering from a lying, untrustworthy Prime Minister to me but each to their own......

I paid a rare visit to Hanley last Saturday and visited the Bethesda Chapel as it happened to be open to the public. It is a magnificent example of a Victorian Chapel, but in a sad state of disrepair. They were an applicant for funds on the BBC's "Restoration" programme, a few years ago but missed out in favour of Manchester's Victoria Baths - surprise surprise! Had the Chapel been in Liverpool, Birmingham or Manchester it would have been fixed ages ago - but no, it is in little old Stoke. I use this as an example of how smaller cities lose out in favour of larger ones when it comes to funding for infrastructure and other projects.

Deprivation is going to get worse but EU membership will, at worst, be a relatively meaningless factor. The divide between the haves and have notes is only going to widen as more and more working class jobs become automated. It's a ticking time-bomb really.

The USA has the world's biggest deficit, Brunei has the world's biggest surplus and it's one of the worst places to live on earth. Let's try and build a country that doesn't just use GDP as a yardstick to success but by the health and well being of it's citizens, and by the gap between the rich and poorest in society. That would be a good start......

I'm quite interested to see what funding SOT gets post-Brexit.
I do think that the EU funding consists of funds that would never have been granted to SOT by the UK government. After all, if the UK government was interested then why wouldn't they also fund the area? But anyway, let's see if any of these redistributed funds will replace those that are lost.

It happens in Scandinavia, and could easily happen here. People just need to see beyond our corrupt press, our morally bankrupt politicians on the payroll of lobbyists with their own interests at heart, those corporations making obscene profits and paying peanuts in wages. But lots can't be arsed. Or don't care. Their life is ok, and that's just how the world works isn't it? Whatever people think of Corbyn, the press and his peers often mock him because he doesn't play the game and they're afraid the status quo will be affected. They'd ignore him otherwise wouldn't they? The current government piss all over us and the press tell us it's raining. They convince the average Joe like you or I that it's the poor, or immigrants and not the elite that cause the ills in society, and scarily people fall for it hook line and sinker......

Actual cash. I guess that would be a starting point......

Couldn't agree more, and it's difficult to see a more corrupt situation than that surrounding medical marijuana in this country, it's incredible that a drugs minister should have to 'recuse herself' from discussions on cannabis because her partner is partly responsible for growing and exporting more of it than any other country in the world! At least she's got someone to talk to about it, since Theresa May's husband is also massively involved. And while they're doing this our own people are suffering unnecessarily because it's illegal in this country. The hypocrisy is staggering. I've never been too interested in politics but, probably through being ex service, I suppose I leaned more right than left. Not any more, they can fuck off the disingenuous twats.

I posted some links a few weeks back showing what investment SOT had received from the EU. www.stokestaffslep.org.uk/case-studies/I doubt funding will exist once we're out. The entire UK will be worse off as the money saved on EU membership won't begin to cover the money lost in trade and other benefits. It will all go on short term projects to sustain UK businesses, with anything that's left probably being used to continue the mudslinging campaign against the EU and blame them for the mess an 'independent' UK is in. But if people want to believe that saving the membership money will somehow end up in more local investment then so be it. It's too late to sway opinion now. People will have to realise it for themselves.
