It seems like a similar situation to the one we were in with Higginbotham last season. The Ipswich fans can say what they like, but if we offer £3/4m and the player decides he wants to move, then there's not much they can do about it.

True.
But it'd have to be a very hefty bid and he'd have to kick up a real stink about wanting a shot at the Premier.
Otherwise, I can't see them having any interest in biting. 1m would be laughed at, unless there was a release clause, surely?
They seem to have loadsamoney themselves - didn't they spend 2.5m on Norris last winter - with the promise of many more millions being spent this summer?

Yep, they'll be going for it next year- selling their best player won't show much intent to their fans..
Stoke are probably searching for something which isn't there.

Didn't he play virtually every game on the right of midfield as well?
One of the few positions we reckon we've already got a player who's got a chance of making the step up.
Looks a bit of a non-starter overall.

Yep, although i think he could play in any attacking position.
Just odd really.

doesnt Walters play on the left more than the right?
Haynes - who did play on the right - was brilliant in the game @ Portman Road, destroyed Dicko & Pugh.
we need a sqad so either (or both!) of these would be great. would cost £5m for the pair @ least you would think.
McCulloch would be cheaper than Walters but I did think Walters looked more of a TP player than Haynes

He does look to have had a fantastic season, almost exclusively on the right wing. tinyurl.com/5vaxtpBest player - Jon Walters
Jon Walters is attracting the attention of Premier League clubs - and you don't have to be Alan Hansen to see why.
Comfortable on the ball, pacey, and with an eye for goal, Walters has quickly established himself as one of Town's key men.
And on top of all that, he's a jolly nice bloke, who always plays the game with a smile as wide as the Orwell Bridge.9 – Jon Walters (9/10) – so much better as a right winger than a forwardwww.ipswich.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=107886Poll results on Vital Ipswich have revealed in rather conclusive fashion that Jon Walters has been Ipswich Town's best player this season.
Walters took a massive 57% majority from Vital Ipswich which gets him yet another award having already received two in the annual Ipswich Town awards ceremony.
And to be honest, I doubt you could find anyone more worthy than Mr Walters who has been simply outstanding almost without exception every time he has represented Town this season.Player of the season: Jon Walters. The Scouser has been an unexpected revelation this season in an unfamiliar position of right midfield.
He proved himself to be a great creator and scorer of goals.

We do need cover for right wing.

Walters wouldn't come here to be on the bench.
A spot upfront would await him and as Bayern says, Cover for right wing as well.

If there's anything in this link, surely it's inconceivable that Pulis would buy a player who's shone only when deployed as a wide midfielder in the C'ship, and play him up front in the Premier?
He's supposedly crap in the air too.

Fuller was the best in the championship last season at what he does, but Walters is more of a winger come forward- you can't really compare. I don't think Walters is crap in the air btw- Anyone remember than fantastic header from a corner -blackpool away

If this were to go through could it see Lawrence pushed back into the central midfield role he used to play at Mansfield? I could certainly see him doing a job there!

According to Ipswich fans Haynes is a bit part player who quite often does nothing.

I think Lawrence would be worth a try in central midfield - where he often played at Mansfield. But Mark Wolstanton says he would be crap in that position so of course TP would not dare play him there!

I can and I have....Not as good as Fuller in any position! Invite him to a training session, split the squad up into two teams and have a match with Fuller and Walters in goal for each team. Perhaps Walters will be better with the gloves on? Interesting one, he's very highly rated, he was pushing Lawrence all the way for a while on that OPTIM business. From what I can remember of him playing against us, he was a dirty cheat who spent 5 minutes on the field of play not wearing any boots and he was pretty disappointing all round. Well, I obviously wasn't disappointed at the time because everybody wants the opposition's players to have poor games, but yes, he had a pretty bad game.

Could it be his agent talking?
The scum of the Earth, raking in millions for spreading rumours; leeching the life blood from the game and giving nothing back; parasitically draining the resources for new talent.
And I'm in a good mood!

www.clubfanzine.com/ipswich_town/showNews.php?id=11277Walters Again Linked With StokeWednesday 11 Jun 2008 08:57:06 by Phil Jon Walters is again linked with a move to Stoke City by one of this morning’s tabloids. The striker was previously mentioned in connection with the Potters a week ago. The report claims that Town’s targeting of Newcastle’s Shola Ameobi could lead to Walters’s Portman Road exit, however, this seems unlikely. Regardless of moves for other strikers, Town wouldn’t want to allow Walters to leave, particularly for the relatively low fee of £1 million which was previously reported.
The player himself signalled his intention to remain with the Blues in January when he signed a new contract tying him to Town until 2011. During the last transfer window Wigan were strongly linked with the 24-year-old.
Meanwhile, it’s a quiet morning on the Ameobi front, aside from reports that Norwich are likely to have withdrawn from the race with fees in the region of £4 million currently beyond their means. The Canaries are now being linked with another Newcastle striker, Andy Carroll, who was a Town loan target a year ago, along with Derby County.

Again, it just seems a non starter this one. He signed a 4 year contract in January and they wouldn't entertain selling him for 1m would they?
At the moment, we seem to be linked with every player going. What I find intriguing though is how the same stories are being reported by different sources at the same time.
If it was just one source for example, you could throw it away as something one journalist made up. But when 2 different national papers link us with the same player for the same fee at the same time it makes you think that there could be something in it? Just how would 2 national papers quote us as being in for Walters for 1m if there was nothing in it? It just seems too much of a co-incidence.
This has been the case with a number of players over the last week too. Just this morning both the Sun and the Mirror have us as being in for Maik Taylor. Just where are all of these rumours coming from!?
