He's a very good player, had a great season last term and be capable of playing at a higher level if you look at the variety of goals he's scored-headers from corners, runs from the half way line, tap ins. Mostly from midfield , would be good on the left but he isn't bad upfront either. He can shift too.

One of the best players in the Championship last season. If we do go for any Championship players then Walters should be one on our list - other striker/wingers would include Halmosi and Parry. I suppose the downside to Walters (for us) is that he is right footed which puts him in competition with Lawrence. I wonder if, like Lawrence, he is also able to play effectively on the left if needs be?
EDIT - looking at the Wiki stats he does appear to be a bit of a "late developer" in terms of his scoring ability. Well worth a look at £1 million ish, I'd say.

What's he been like since his injury?

In the Actim index he seemed to maintain his form when he came back in April. I think the fact that he was able to play again in half the time expected, suggests he recovered well from the surgery.

Could be interesting, an unknown quality within the Premiership and may well suit. Was good at Ipshit last season and can play on the wing. If Tone likes him, then so do I

He was attracting some premier league attention from Newcastle and Wigan during the january transfer window, but then signed a new contract to 2011. I think they would want more for him than the figure quoted, especially with his goals tally being as good as anyone at Stoke last season.

Yeah, sounds like paper talk to me. We might have made an initial enquiry but I can't see anything more concrete than that. Sure Ipswich would want over 1m for one of their top players.
You never know though.

Seems a bit cheep when you consider that Crewe look likely to get the same amount for Maynard, who is undoubtedly promising, but has not done it at the level that Walters has.
These days, for £1m you don't get a great deal of striker unless you make some very cunning buy from overseas. If SIOCHs right (I can't remember) and he can shift, he's got something we are short of.

A lad of his talent and age would surely go for more than that.
Perhaps Stoke are using the 1 million as a bid to test the water.

Sounds like he'd be a decent signing. However I prefer the other bloke at Ipswitch Haynes is it? The right winger that ripped Dicko apart away. He looks a really quality player to me. Pace, power, ability to dribble and finsihing.

lookng at his goal stats , it looks like he'd be useful as a winger utilising his pace, and chipping in with a couple of goals.
sure he played up front at the brit (with alan lee) and was quite poor.

He is a scouser, so he'd probably fancy the move back north. And he'd definitely fancy the Premiership.
But having signed a new 4-year deal in February, you'd think 1m is a bit of a piss-take of an offer for a player that apparently shone in the C'ship.
Having said that, is he really good enough to be a starter up front for us and make a difference in the top league? Or good enough to displace Lawence on the right?
Reports on him all mention aaard work though, so that's right down Pulis' street.
But he's only had one good half season at a decent level, so would still be a gamble.

Walters is more the finished article though, and scores all sorts of goals, overall , he is the better player imo.
Haynes is a decent prospect for the future, but he's hugely hit and miss.

i prefer haynes to walters but i think haynes would cost more due to the raw talent he has at just 20 year old. he's also quicker than walters

Contracts don't really mean that much if the player wants to go as manure are going to find out. It is possible though that he only signed a new contract on the condition that there was a release clause inserted which is where the £1m may come from after all why would a player linked with premiership clubs sign a new contract when he could have let his contract run out and taken a bosman to another championship club at the worst for lots more ££££

Why won't Tone go for Haynes then?
Because he's out of our reach probably, if he did move he'd go to a bigger club, he has raw talent, shows brilliant glimpses, nowhere near as consistent as Walters is he?

I'd prefer Haynes, we have no one with real pace, we need pacy players and Haynes is bloody quality.

They do seem to rate him...
Walters a £1mil target for Stoke I laughed when I saw the derisorily figure of £1 million mentioned. Walters is our best player. In the current market he’s got to be worth £5 million - and even then I’d like to think that we wouldn’t sell him as he’s one of the few players at the club guaranteed a place in the starting 11 next season.
What a joke, it's laughable.
He's worth at least £3-4mil, and even if we had a bid accepted I honestly don't think he'd leave.
Tell them to add 4 more...and we can still reject it IMO
We wont sell. He wont go.
It would need a large bid from a more established PL club to do a deal

I wasn't impressed with any of Ipswich players tbh ;D Haynes came on and looked really lightweight- agree though, he has a great career ahead of him if he makes the right choices.
