A mate of mine watches Warrington Town, and saw them at home against F.C. United in a league match. He said they didn't seem anything special in the first half, but played really well in the second. They hammered Buxton yesterday 7-0. A friend of his has been to the F.C. ground, and said it was quite impressive, so he could be going when Warrington play them away nearer to Christmas. Warrington knocked F.C. out of the F.A. Cup at their ground, but were beaten by Bracknell in the next 2-0. We pass by the F.C. United ground when putting flowers on my wife's father's grave in Moston cemetary. It does look quite impressive! their home end was once Northwich Vics 'danebank' end, they bought it and transferred it when Vics lost their ground My local non league team didn't have a match this weekend

The day when the FSA encourages fans from the leagues not playing on international weekend to go to a so-called "lower" league game ( I always find the name "non league" a bit odd - they play in leagues, some of them very good). I am going to take in AFC Telford at home to York City in the National League North. Remember us once playing at Telford ? Anyone else venturing somewhere interesting ? Stop it Malcolm, it's at least 2 seasons off yet...

After 20 years of driving to Stoke from Leek for every home game, I eventually moved to Stoke, and can now walk from Trentham to the Stoke matches. The irony of the situation is that I now drive back to Leek some Saturdays or for evening matches, to watch Leek Town FC. They started off on fire this season and Neil Baker has a brilliant squad of players who show more heart, desire and energy than our squad of over preened, overpaid and underperforming squad. Non league football is on the up, for £20 I can buy a pint, programme and soft drinks, plus entrance fee for my son and I, watch some decent football and enjoy the experience. What I especially like is that the players work their socks off beyond 90 mins, and that's where many of Leeks points have arrived, in the last 5 mins of games, what do they get paid per game ? It can't be much. Leek have slipped down the league a little (after winning their first 7 games) due to cup games and postponements, injuries and suspensions, but there is some real competition for promotion this season (after missing out in the playoffs last season) with a good clutch of teams winning almost every game so far. There is definitley an element of time warp nostalgia with non league footy, I absolutely loved the bar at Newcastle towns stadium, it was the same as when I was a kid 35 plus years ago. I hope they never modernise it and keep that 70s / 80's vibe going. It definitley reminded me of going to the footy with my Grandad, sitting in a social club with a coke and packet of crisps.

Alsager 0-2 New Mills. Damage done in 1st half 2nd best to everything. They scored to easy goals. 2nd half no real chances for either side. Rain set in making it not great playing conditions. Got what they deserved with a below par performance free image hosting

If I hadn’t been busy today then Bradford Park Avenue would have been my destination. I recently went to Queen of the South, and I massively recommend a visit to Palmerston Park for those who love a time warp, roots football afternoon.
