Born in1959 so growing up in the 60 s Bonfire night was a big event in a kids life it would be about this time of the year the kids in our street would start to collect bonfire wood so anything that was not fastened down and made of wood on the estate was good to go On the night which was always only the 5TH unless it fell on a Sunday which was a big no no our parents would get involved Roast Chestnuts jacket tats hot dogs. The lead up was a great time keeping watch over our wood so it was not nicked or worse set on fire.Halloween was not such a big deal for what I can remember of it.

We used to do Penny for Guy thing on Wolstanton High Street. One time an elderly lady stopped by to put a coin in but said it had fallen on the floor and rolled under a parked car. As we scrambled underneath to find said coin she emptied our money box and scarpered before we realised what was happening. Bless her she needed it more than us lads

Nov 5th. Catholic burning night. Probably get banned soon on the grounds of it infringing some sort of discrimination Law.

It's sadly been overshadowed by Halloween, most people don't bother with home fireworks and go to big displays , sadly the councils don't allow bonfires now for safety reasons
