There are no real villains in this scenario , just a load of people trying hard but proving to be a bit incompetent - hard to get really outraged by this. True. I don't think anyone's angry at Jones because he's a nice bloke, just incompetent. it's also difficult to be angry at a man who's pumped God knows how many million into the club over the last decade or so. It must be our fault then! And, I don't know about anyone else, but I'm constantly angry at myself for caring! Self-flagellation is the answer!

The way I see it is this, and it can be backed up by reading here, Twitter, listening to Radio Stoke or whatever: Jones:Fans see he is a genuine enough bloke who has totally consumed himself in the job. Results have been poor and I think many deep down appreciate the tough job he's had coming in after Rowett threw 50 odd million up the wall. Some obviously don't like or rate him, which will be par for the course with any manager. Owners:Fans are starting to see them dithering and dangling again and are starting (just starting) to question them heavily. However, there are those amongst us who take the stance of 'be careful what you wish for', 'Cheap away travel', 'ten years in the PL', 'local owners' etc etc. Again, a bit of a split like Jones. Players:They'll always get booed based on performances and we've seen it all season CEO:Think this is where most will agree on. In short, I don't think it's fans being passive or giving up, I think it's as simple as they don't know where to send their ire along with there being such a split amongst the fan base as to who is to blame, how much is each party to blame, 'should we really be criticising person or persons X for reason x, y or z?' My stance on it is simple - I can cut Jones some slack to a degree given the situation he was thrown into, and think history might show just how tough his job was, think he's underperformed in certain areas, am very angry at the board going back to Hughes' days and hold the CEO in utter contempt. The players I am absolutely furious with. They obviously either can't or don't want to adapt to a system that was happily adapted by League One and Two players, which I really cannot get my head around one bit. Maybe over the next few months, if things aren't sorted, then the anger might be more focused in a specific direction? Spot on as you often are. CEO drives me mad. Managers like Hughes are just part of a merry go round in it for the money. Jones appears to be the genuine article who actually cares which is why he has been cut so much slack. Obviously it can't continue much longer and he has said so himself. We have been unlucky and also made schoolboy errors which is down to the players more than the manager. It's going to come to a head shortly one way or another. We all hope it works out as fans because we are in it for the long term regardless of owners, manager's or players. It's our team and we dearly want some success.

I must admit that someone in block 29 was giving it the big one on Tuesday night, standing up on a couple of occasions, ranting, shouting abuse and finger pointing he'd proper lost it. Funniest thing I've seen for ages down at the ground. In answer to the question of the OP I can't help you because I sit with a load of grown ups

Because everyone’s just stopped giving a fuck.
The board and the players clearly don’t care so why should we.

I think three factors influence the lack of physical protest: Learned helplessness: some wanted Pulis out, some wanted Hughes out, some lambert, Rowett and now Jones and we've simply given up: what's the point? We don't get what we want i.e. 'the next level' so fuck it The second reason: social media, tv, internet. You can vent your spleen in the comfort of your own home and find other distractions to waste your time and money on Finally, and probably the greatest reason that crowd violence and riots has reduced dramatically since the 70's and 80's - they took lead out of petrol!😁 www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/10782729/Crime-figures-is-this-the-end-of-the-age-of-violence.htmlOther theories are available 😎

What would an outraged display of anger actually achieve? Get rid of the owners? No-one is perfect - but we could do a hell of a lot worse. And lets face it we probably would do a hell of a lot worse. Get rid of Jones? It may slice a game or two off the inevitable but he's clearly trying his best and a lot of fans recognise that. Also the realistic alternatives are far from inspiring. Change the squad? That's not going to happen. Maybe people do feel angry - but maybe even those who do feel angry recognise the futility of kicking off. What exactly would it achieve - other than a cathartic rush of adrenaline? Personally my reaction isn't anger - it's sadness. But I retain the hope things might get better when everyone recognises we aren't a Premiere club slumming it but a struggling Championship club struggling to deal with the harsh realities of a very competitive league. I'd rather direct my emotional energy in something positive - like supporting the club - rather than invest my emotional energy into something negative and completely futile. But that's a happy clapper for you. Good post that mate. Wouldn’t say your a happy clapper, you just have a positive outlook on life.

My view is that the malaise stems from the club hitting its glass ceiling under Pulis and, to a greater extent, Hughes when we were knocked totally off course. At that point it dawned on some that, without an absolutely huge investment, there was no higher our club could go.
They than asked: when the pinnacle was reached in such recent memory, what is there to get angry about or strive for? And this divided opinion from the boardroom to the stands.
It’s a very difficult truth to accept - but our mid-size club had the door slammed in our face, again.
The modern game is so rigged in the favour of those backed by more than new money - just like society at large - and we found that out in early 2016 and have been sliding backwards ever since.

There's a world of difference between not wanting to be absolutely horrific and believing we have an automatic right to promotion. I think we are massively under performing and more than capable of competing in this league. I'm just not convinced pointless displays of anger will help turn things round.

I think Jones was cut a lot of slack because people knew how important it was for it to work. Constantly changing managers will not work with the way our manager's get backed and are allowed to sign any player they seemingly want. Re the board I think that has to be acknowledged that a lot of us were taken in by Jones and what he was selling at the beginning so it would be unfair to criticise too heavily. We also have to acknowledge that our owners love the club and aren't pulling large sums of money out of the club and at least for 2005-2009 we were a very well run club. When the fall started can be argued but it's largely a string of bad decisions made with good intent. I think the failings of this week fall on Jones (loss to Huddersfield) and the horrendous organisation of today and yesterday from Scholes and the board will change the mood in the stadia. Absolutely. The fans have been brilliant so far but it's like the board are goading the fans to kick off, so it finally gives them a mandate to sack him. Bunch of spineless cowards!

Apathy set in with Hughes. Seeing all the player bollocks being spouted about being in it together for the last 3 years is just Club produced media shit and if there is one thing Stoke are shit at, its MEDIA.
The football has been shit now for 3 years and anyone who slates it gets frowned upon by the many or sometimes set upon, by the few. 12th man my arse.

I think we are saturated with the discontent on here, social media, wall-to-wall media broadcasts dissecting it all constantly that we’re all sick to death of it, had the arguments in advance and beaten into submission prior to the match. Back in the day the only place to get irate and vent your spleen was at the match. We’ve got too many opportunities to lose our shit now to really care come matchday. A good point well made Barberra.

What do you mean by 'sticking two fingers up at the fans'? And why would they want to do that? Because they know that the vast majority of fans want Jones out and are angry at how badly he's managing the team, even if that anger isn't particularly being directed at him personally. It's the same sort of arrogance that kept Hughes in a job for far too long on the basis of 'What's all the fuss about?' I've met Peter Coates on a couple of occasions and I honestly think he's a nice bloke, but he's never been keen to admit his mistakes...and the Jones appointment is one of the biggest bollocks the club's ever dropped. Is that not incompetence or poor decision-making, rather than a move that is purposefully calculated to annoy the fans? And I do not think this is comparable to the 'what's all the fuss about?' I think the the people in charge know we are right in the shit now, in comparison to the what was implied by that quotation (which referred to entirely different circumstances). The Coates may have got some big calls wrong in recent years, but they had to get a number of big calls right in order to get us in the Prem and enjoy a decade of unprecedented success to begin within. They are not perfect, but they are not Mike Ashley either. I also do not think the players have 'downed tools' as you put it. Anyone who has been to the games can see they are mostly putting in the effort and running the hard miles. It has been the quality in both boxes that has cost us. And that is part of the answer to your question. It is more difficult to boo them off when you can see they are still trying.
