Great deal that Bread, great config. The only thing that puts me off Dell is that a couple of years ago my brother bought a lappy off them and his batterie exploded and caught fire. I think they had to recall a shit load of laptops. I'm not dissing Dell it's just when you hear some of the horror stories that people had with them it tends to put you off. However it is a great deal, with nowt to pay until Jan.
Chris and Matt cheers for the Karma, will reciprecate you both.
Strange how the original poster of the thread hasn't replied to his own thread. ???

Wait till aldi have another PC offer. www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/58_5285.htmLook at the spec - miles better than anything else listed here. And a 3 year warranty. Got one of their laptops recently and the spec is incredible for the price. Better than anything else on the web (and believe me, I trawled through hundreds of sites before committing).

to be fair starkiller,we were quoting laptops for student practicality. desktops will usually have more to them purely because they have more room to play with due to their size.
a 3 year warranty is a good selling point for any technology though.i didn't notice a screen on that advert you posted.

Good spec on that Aldi one but no monitor. I was only looking at laptops as that was what Matt was looking for. If he was looking at a desktop i would highly recomend going to a local pc shop (Overclockers, Disc-co etc) and either build it yourself or have one built for you. Hell with it, i'd even build it for you! It works out far cheaper and better spec'ed than any of the major electrical stores. Chris, i thought that you were going toleave this thread to Bread. Still suffering from Big Brother mate? ;D Have some Karma my friend

Id advise to go to Dell, they have better deals than PC World etc and you get a good pc and not one that is built up from any bits and bobs these shitty little shops have got in that week on the cheap. PC World sell Dell computers.. The reason why Dell computers are so cheap are because the parts are produced extremely cheaply meaning the quality of the parts are lower so don't buy one Me personally.. I'd recommend you got yourself a Toshiba laptop as they are highly reliable

To be honest, i still can't even decide between laptop or desktop! Almost finished my first year of college now and will probably be buying a new computer in august/september. With me probably going to Uni after college it might be more practical to have a laptop but i do prefer a desktop for playing FM ;D
SuperRicky my sister had a toshiba laptop for christmas and it seems pretty decent

I've got a Toshiba laptop myself and for nearly a year old it's still ticking over nicely. I whacked the RAM up to the maximum of 2GB so that FM could run at a decent speed ;D If it's for college work then you can't go wrong with a laptop. My girlfriend got a Toshiba from Currys (where she works) this week for around £499. 2GB RAM, Dual Core processer at 1.73ghz, 120GB Hard Drive, 17' screen and a built in webcam. Bloody good spec for that price

Yeah I agree, Tosh laptops are very good, as for "parts are produced extremely cheaply meaning the quality of the parts are lower" this is true with any make, and even more with clone PC's you build yourself.
From my own experience I have used Dell, Toshiba, Compaq/HP and Sony and would recommend them all apart from Sony, they reminded me of Fisher Price.

Overclockers are very good. Travel up from Stafford to get their stuff. Be very careful if buying from PC World/Comet/Currys/Dixons etc as they do knock out some shit. To be honest 120GB hard drive is a bit small for a laptop these days, considering you may want to partition it to back up, and if you have a lot of pics/music and uni stuff on it. You'll need a fair bit of RAM if you're getting Vista and/or you want to play football manager or any of the other latest games. Mesh are alright www.meshcomputers.com/Default.aspx?PAGE=MAINPAGE_VII

Trust me, wait for the next Aldi laptop offer. Usually every 2 or 3 months. This is the one I recently got. Look at the spec. Just watching the football on the built in Freeview now. www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/58_5872.htm
