I see someone has started a thread about voting with your feet. Well this season after having a season ticket for the best part of 54 years I decided enough was enough and decided not to renew along with friends I have sat with for years. I decided I would still go to the games but on my own terms, not feeling I had to go because I had a season ticket. I also said I would still go to the away games because of the away day out, good company and a good few scoops. So far I have only been to one away game and two home games and let me tell you I don’t miss going in the slightest. I can’t believe how this club have totally knocked everything I loved about “ my club “ out of me. This runs much deeper than the manager. I will always be a supporter but the passion for me has gone, at least for the time being. By seeing the empty seats at the stadium iam not the only one. I would love the club to give an accurate attendance figure instead of lying. Hopefully in the near future somebody will come into the club to re ignite that passion, but it needs to be someone who will stand up to the totally inept hierarchy at the club, and that is where the problem lies, until the structure of the club is sorted nothing will change, we will always have second rate “yes men” at the helm. I understand that you haven't missed it in the slightest because we've been crap, but if we'd got off to a flying start and were fighting at the right end of the table I bet that a) you would have been to more games so far this season and b) if you hadn't been to more games, you would be missing it. Yet again, the reason your aren't going and aren't missing it is because we are crap. If and when we ever get good again, you'll be back or you'll be so henpecked by people who have become accustomed to you being around on a matchday that you'll be missing it terribly, wishing you'd never given it up in the first place. I haven't attended as many matches as I have in previous seasons because of football commitments with my kids but even though we are shit, I'm missing it. I miss the craic with lads I've grown up with, I miss sharing it with my boys and I miss supporting the team. God willing, M6 traffic allows me to get down for the game tonight once my eldest has finished playing for his school! Dave, did you get your game of golf in before the Crawley game?

Played a fantastic course called Chartham Park. Tee'd off at 1pm in bright sunshine and played the whole round in shorts and tee shirt. We've played golf before midweek away games for as long as I can remember. Shit golf standards normally equated to a good Stoke win. Sadly, I played out of my skin and text my mates that a terrible performance would be forthcoming as a result. Blame me for Tuesday's defeat, not Nathan Jones!

I think that the Premiership has a lot to answer for in generally causing a more apathetic approach by many to the game. With the advent of vast sums of money being paid for mediocre players and players believing the hype that surrounded their often limited skills we ended up with a total 'them and us' situation. Yes, sure there's always been a glamour about the game and being a player but this took it to a whole different level. Players lost touch with the fans and vice versa. Whether it be your favoured international side or your Club side a little bit or a lot of the togetherness was inevtably going to die. Once it meant so much to see your team win, get promoted, avoid relegation. Signing players you perceived would enhance your side was exciting. The gulf widened and all of a sudden players often acted as if they were beyond criticism let alone banter from the common all garden fan who contributed to their over inflated pay packet. You wouldn't see them shopping in your local town centre anymore, they wouldn't be hanging out at your local nightclub etc. The divide had happened. Today, I still love Stoke City but call it the advancement of years I just dont let it get to me anymore the way it once did. More to the point, we can often see what's coming before the powers that be, which is worrying as we're not privy to the goings on on a daily basis! It's all so predictable sadly, especially with our Club. Always Stoke (Although often can't be arsed with England)however, I thoroughly enjoy watching a local team in Scotland where I spend much of my time thesedays. They remain untainted by this media bullsh!t and ridiculous money. Sure, they enjoy a bit of crowd 'adulation' and someone having a chat with them. That's still a motivation come matchday, be a local hero and all that. Sadly, our lot probably don't give a rat's ass what any of us think and there lie-th the problem!!

What a great start to the day!!! Shame about later. I'll check the course out now. Was beautiful mate. USGA tees and greens so despite the fact that it was monsoon weather in the morning, the course was perfect by the time I got there and teed off. I could have played in my slippers it was so dry. Credit to the pro at Ifield Golf Club. I was booked to play there, which came highly recommended but I phoned down in advance to see if it was open. He said he'd be embarrassed to take a green fee off me because it was so wet but if I wanted to, I could play for free. He recommended Chartham Park to me, said how dry it would be assuming the forecast was as predicted for the afternoon and I played there for £27. As usual the football ruined a good day but I met up with my cousin and some Eastbourne Stokies who are now good mates following our Europa League trip and thoroughly enjoyed it. I wouldn't swap supporting Stoke City for anything, good, bad or indifferent.

The spirit of the original posting is very similar to mine too and is particularly well articulated (yet Ive had pelters on here for a similar stance but stopped going too) no matter The point is this:- those accountable really do need holding to account properly by the local media and supporters now and they must step forward and explain themselves for this is now beyond humiliation and a disaster I am talking Jon Coates - Tony Scholes in particular and then --- the team manager has anyone got the gumption to actually challenge them and they in turn, step forward ? Tony - the local media will never truly take anyone in the club's upper echelons to task: for financial/political/career reasons they are too nervous about rattling anyone's cage. It pains me to say it, but the only way to get any media attention/scrutiny is from the likes of Talk Sport or 5Live. They have much bigger audiences and clout - and therefore aren't scared to stick their noses in and ask some awkward questions of the club's owners and board. At the very least, they can use our situation as call-fodder - which in turn brings it national attention which reflects badly on the club and the owners - making them more likely to reply. And the national press are highly unlikely to be banned from the club for asking those questions - we're not a Man Utd or a Liverpool - the club/Bet365 needs the exposure.

Still for a lot of us it is pure escapism.... The waking up as a kid and counting down the hours before we walked along line side and over the Lido. As you get older and you have ( and sometimes need ) the trappings of a car and a seat at the ground you do not feel the same way. The biggest problem for me is the money in the game. I grew up laying on the fields with kids who went on to play for Vale and Stoke. I was at school with Kenny Beech and when I was younger still Trevor Dance who both did well at Vale. I played pub football with John Marsh --- He carried on playing because he loved football.
It aint the same but I will always go..... Its still escapism for me and my son now after a week at work/uni
Come on you rip roaring potters tonight....

I thought you were booked elsewhere, but what good value you got. Well done on making the effort and making a day of it! With Stoke, it's a relationship for life make. No divorce is possible as we know things can only get better. It's not knowing when that makes it exciting

I don't think it's just Stoke it's football in general. I used to regard myself as a football nut, these days other than watching us I'm not even sure I like football most of the time. The disconnect between fans and players in the top divisions, the way you're treated as a number not a fan, the cheating and histrionics, the over priced tat that they try and flog you, the barely cold shite beer they sell you in the concourse, I could go on. For those disillusioned with the game I recommend going to visit your local non-league team - even if its just now and again - I always come away feeling better about the game afterwards....... I've basically fallen out of love with top flight football.....I don't have a clue now of half the players who play for the top six in the Premier league, nevermind the rest of the league!!! Seriously, I'd sooner watch Sunday morning Park football, there's more enjoyment!!!

What a load of Premiership loving Wankstains, all convening tucked up together in 1 room. SCFC is in your Blood for life, no matter how good we are, or how toss we are, if you wanna leave, fucking leave, you don't have too tell your fucking sob story on here. I honestly think in the long run, SCFC will be better off without people like you, Good Riddance & Never come back when it gets better. I know mate. I live in Glasgow, but I still make the effort to watch an online stream or listen to the radio. Yourself? Have you got superfast broadband in ilfracombe?

It would be mid late 80's when Jackie used to play for a local pub team with me ... The New Penny in Fenton... I still see Jackie around often in the Sanford Hill area . He has and always will be a Stoke lad as far as im concerned.

Ha! He played sweeper for us and managed the team as he was seeing a young lady in Utch at the time. Nothing but lovely with me in the brief time I knew him.

Why are we wankstains for telling how it is ? You obviously are not the smartest of guys as you have to resort to swearing and being aggressive. Calm down it's a matter of opinions Good for you,but it has the feel of kicking a man when he is down feel to it.Then again I have only had 51 years of it.
