It wasn't long ago when Steve Simonsen was number 1 for Stoke in both senses of the word. He was touted as 'premiership quality' even one of England's best.
Just wondering what peoples thoughts are on his future, with or without Stoke?

I think he needs some confidence. Loan him to a Championship club, see how he does and start from there. He had become too comfortbale I think. Still a bloody good keeper though.

i think he's a good keeper but not commanding enough last season, so I cant see him getting a good season with us in the premiership. but i'll never forget how good he has been for us in the past.

Without Stoke.
He's simply not good enough for what we are now aspiring to be.

Would like to see him leave personally, if he can't command his area at this age then he ain't gonna learn.
Plus I have heard from a media contact I have that he was less than complimentary about Stoke and their promotion - rude in fact, so as far as I am concerned he can do one.
And don't ask for sources, take it or leave it

I think he will be sold/sent out on loan because if the rumours are true Morten Fulop & Carlo Nash are both signing - well i think Nash defo will!!

Pulis showed a ruthlessness with Simmo that has been sadly lacking with a host of other players.
Yes I'm looking at you Messrs Sidibie and Pericard amongst others.

But Preston have Andy Lonergan, who by all accounts is pretty good?

He's still a good keeper - Depending on who was brought in, I wouldn't mind him as 2nd Choice keeper!

Keepers are always easy to blame though. Simmo will get back to what he was a top drawer keeper that could catch. He needs confidence and to be playing. We need to loan him out and take it from there imo.

northstokie can you shed any light on the way Simmo was rude about Stoke?

He lacks confidence and doesn't command his area. Having said that, do we not have a goalkeeping coach to iron out these things? Still a good keeper & we may need more than 2 keepers in the squad.

Simmo is a good 'keeper who had a dip in form in the second half of last season . Imo Pulis will sign one keeper and keep Simmo as number 2 .

We need three keepers in the squad - Fulop, Carlo + AN Other - whether it is Simmo, or someboby else. I have not been party to what has gone on, but obviously Simmo is not happy staying here - so be it

Cant see Simmo staying just to be third choice, may stop if 2nd
Has been a great servant to the club, was untouchable in his first few seasons but made me very uneasy at times last year, Nash was far superior when he came in
The time is probably right for him to find a new club

"Plus I have heard from a media contact I have that he was less than complimentary about Stoke and their promotion" "he's going to Preston. can't reveal the source, but it WILL happen" Im sick to death of this 'cant tell you me source' shit! About 95% of all these 'I know a guy who knows a guy' knobheads are attention seekers who've got nothing better to do than spread absolute bollocks about. That first quote is IMO complete bollocks, and whatever 'media contact' has said it, is talking out his arse. In fact, for somebody who is now one of, if not THE longest serving player at this club, someone whos never said a bad word about the club, even when being dropped for a goalkeeper thats no better than him, to come out with 'rude' comments NOW is pretty incomprehendable FFS Get a grip

Bircheshead - unfortunately loyalty does not count much these days. Obviously we all love Simmo, but unfortunately we have to be realistic. And TP will still say to PC " we have to extend Ant Jr's contract

I was too busy ranting to actually answer the question ;D
I think that Simo would push a lot of keepers as 2nd choice, but I think we do need a new forst choice keeper. Id like us to sign Carlo Nash if only for the fact that he seemed to be a good dressing room character, but he is no better than Simo and we'd still need a no1. It seems Fulop fits that slot nicely, but we really have to get our skates on and get deals like this sorted as early as possible

Birches, sorry you feel like that and I am the same with some people on here but I'm not a rumour spreader, I have a few contacts that I don't speak to all that often and it was something that happened to be about my club that I wanted to share but without getting them into trouble.
I have sat on it for a couple of weeks really annoyed at what was said but had to share it with people who might also want to hear it - I really don't mind if you believe it or not but if it was me and someone else here was saying it - I would certainly want to hear about it, substantiated or not

He has been a top keeper for our Club and unfortunately he made a few mistakes like any other keeper, but whatever he does either stay at Stoke or go to another Club I wish him all the luck and he would be missed. He is my sons hero. Not so long ago we were all shouting Simmo for England. Good Luck Simmo in whatever u do mate. ps I cant see him being rude tbh as several players have said how positive he was and how hard he trained even when he was no2. Hopefully ur source is wrong.

Depends on the centre halves. With Higginbotham and Duberry doing the shouting, we'd be impregnable. Shawcross and Cort and all of a sudden there's chaos when the ball's around the six yards box. I don't have the same confidence in him as I had at the start of the season. He concedes some daft long range goals at well. Maybe he's just a grade up from Neil Cutler?

Smited for sharing information on one of our players?
You wonder why people are reluctant to post bits of information on here that might be of interest to fellow Stoke fans?!
