The latter two are the worst CB combination I've seen since the days of Steven Tweed and Justin Whittle. Both are League One players at best and both were signed by Jones, whose signings are all looking like absolute disasters.
A defence needs to play together every week to reach any kind of form. BMI's by far our best defender, and given a run of games next to him, Collins soon will be. Edwards needs to take the frankly awful Smith's place at RB, and left back...well, God knows what we do with that disaster zone.

We definitely need to start with a settled centre back partnership and work outwards from there. I agree that today’s was the worst combination we could possibly come up with.

Lindsay and Batth are a right pair of hopeless hoofers.
As you say, God knows what we do at LB.
What a shambles this manager has created!

You know Lindsey is wank when I'd settle for the fanny that is BMI back in the side. Christ, a penny for Ryan's thoughts right now.

Danny Batth is fucking useless. One of the biggest clowns I have seen in a stoke shirt.
Brought in as a leader who'd done this that and the other other. Goes down as a clown who should return to Dingle land at the earliest opportunity.
Another cute signing.

I'd see if Clucas can make left back his own, as he does not deserve a midfield slot. Get Jack's head right in the break and get him back between the sticks too. Further up the field, beg Badou (yes, we have gotten to that stage) to come in to partner Etebo in the midfield. Play Gregory and Campbell together up front if we go with a front two and hope Powell's biscuit legs allow him back on the pitch soon to pull the strings. Consistent selection and tactics build decent teams. Watched Afobe look good earlier and watching Pieters now, whose sale without a quality replacement was a disastrous mistake. Amazing how they look so much better away from our omnishambles of a club. No one can tell me that a 4231 as follows would not do better than the shower out there right now: Butland Edwards Collins Martins Indi Clucas Badou Etebo Ince Powell Verlinden Gregory/Campbell

That, of course, was created when he totally forgot how to just, you know - “football” - couldn’t kick it, head it, knee it, chest it and hoof it. He just seemed to have a massive brain fart for 3 seconds.

What the fuck he is trying to achieve with all this chopping and changing god knows. Batth and Lindsay could possibly work individually next to someone else but together it’s just awful - the same player but one is left footed and the other is right. They don’t compliment each other at all.
That could be said for the rest of the team. Week on week you can consistently have issue with at least 4 of the players he picks and the formation and tactics he uses. There are no signs of anything clicking anytime soon and we’ll be gone by Halloween at this rate. I know it’s simple maths and it would never happen but extrapolate this form over a whole season and we’d have 8 points.
Collins is an automatic pick for me now, simply because the other options are so ridiculously bad. Find a partner for him and stick with those two or three. Whatever.

Both are perfect examples of why we are in a serious mess. The last 3 years defy belief.

The players are clearly confused with the various formations which change every game and quite often during the game!! I know it's not particularly trendy or with it but please, just drill the players on a 4-4-2. Two defensive midfield players with two offensive midfield players and two strikers: Federici Edwards Collins BMI Clucas Ince Badou/Woods Etebo Verlinden Campbell/Hogan Gregory/Vokes

Lindsey should be dropped absolutely no doubt, composed with the ball but passing is poor and defensive positioning is worse.

It's clear that Batth has been told to stop hoofing the ball all the time - that's actually a Jones positive.
So he passes it to Lindsay who passes it back to Batth. Then he passes it to Smith, who's scared of doing anything with the ball, so he passes back to Batth - meanwhile none of the midfielders or forward are moving about so there's nowhere else for Batth to move the ball, but a yard or two. Then the opposition puts pressure on him, so he does the only thing he's ever learned, which is to hoof it 40+ yards forward to no one in particular. Then we win the ball, it starts all over again. Same moves, same going nowhere...

Can someone explain why Batth is suddenly shite? And what did he do wrong today?
He was great for us last season. Admittedly started badly this time around but was he really to blame today?
The main problem is as you say - too much chopping and changing.
Pretty sure the reason BMI has been left out mostly until now is because he does not really want to play for us. Same for Badou. Surely that is obvious?
And I find it strange so many on here talking about how great Shawcross is. It was a pretty lonely job defending him on here last season when everyone on here said he was shit and started giving him abuse.
