I would throw him in the starting 11. Even on crutches he has to be better than anything we got

Are people beginning to realise, despite being past his peak, he remains a vital player and presence for us?

We don’t miss him, he wouldn’t make any difference right now. Sorry.

He attended the game v Leeds on Saturday and was in good spirits. Too early to set a comeback date just taking one day at a time.

I think the consensus at the time was we are looking at the new year, I always add a bit to that since it generally seems to be a date to train with the main group again, you really have to do a pre-season after that. I'm going to guess at February to start a league game.

Leaders come in all Shapes sizes and styles , crouch once remarked the squad was badly effected by the loss of Ryan with his back injury operation due to the impact his loss of strength had on the whole team , stating it was a huge blow ahead if the season .

I am a Shawcross fan and he has been many valuable things for our club but a leader on the field has never been one of them. Maybe Pulis was little head over heels in love with the young Ryan, but he recognised a great organiser and leader, and every manager we've had since, Hughes, Lambert, Rowett & Jones, have seen the exact same qualities in him. The latter two both plucked up the courage and dropped him (rightly so and they did him a favour, because he was able to reignite his career), but neither replaced him as club captain for one simple reason. No one can replace a natural born leader!

My understanding is breaks are not so bad when you have recovered as say muscle or ligament injury, this could give him time to sort his back too, maybe he'll come back from this stronger.

Wasn’t he dropped a while back and didn’t our performances improve? I’m eternally grateful to Shawcross for what he’s given the club and he is rightly seen as a legend. He has however lost his edge in my opinion and whilst he has seen an Indian Summer at this level I’m hoping our new acquisitions come good and he can gracefully be phased out over the next two seasons.
