Fornside,
Am back in your neck of the woods early Friday (13th!) as part of 3 Peaks. Probably going to sit it out and let the rest of the team tackle the Pike, after last years debacle of climbing the wrong bloody mountain in the dark !. Dodgy knees probably won't let me do much more than Ben N and Snowdon. Don't suppose nothing has changed much from the Wasdale Head end ? I hear the owner of the field at the base has put some helpful markers down to help people find the bridge and correct path in the dark.
Will give you a wave as we pass by.

I've been up Snowdon but I used the train as it is so much easier than walking.
p.s why would you climb any mountain in the dark? The only reason to go up a mountain would be to admire the view.

I've only ever mounted two mountain peaks in the dark.....but these days they have levelled out to minor undulations.
Gravity and age are insurmountable...

time4apint, I did the 3 peaks 2 years ago, over the longest day weekend, even though it was daylight on top of Ben Nevis and Snowdon it was very misty and you couldn't see a thing, in fact it was that wet and windy on Snowdon they shut the train, cafe and access to the top to day trippers, the day before it had been 25'c Scafell is a nightime climb, it's the only way you can go up and down all 3 peaks in 24 hours, which is a challenge rather than a day trip to admire the view

surely the challenge of the 3 peaks is getting down the country without getting caught speeding?
Nothing hard about climbing walking up 3 small mountains with donkey paths all the way to the top.

ed, it is a marathon distance whilst climbing 10,000 feet, I thought I was quite fit and amanged it ok, but the legs were a bit stiff the day after. Not much of a path at the top of scafell or half way up Nevis, which was snow covered for the last 500 feet. I was up your way last weekend, stayed in that new Novotel out at hermiston gait, wasn't quite finished, I went to use the gym but there wasn't any equipment in it, couldn't get any water out of the shower either, they gave me a room change and that shower was freezing cold!

they gave me a room change and that shower was freezing cold! That's how the water is in Scotland. You were lucky in wasn't winter! If your are in the 'burgh I can suggest far better things to do than go to a gym!
