Ok we almost blew it but that could be a big confidence boost.
I expected a thrashing so fair play to the team. lets see if we can score first and hold on for 3 points against Brum
p.s. when did the rules change to stop us trying to score 3 goals in a single game?

This could be as big a win, as the loss in the semi away at Liverpool was. I.E. Kickstart, as opposed to the beginning of a steep decline.

Not for me, we still folded like a deck of cheap cards tonight. Still massive questions about our mentality.

It'll all be for nothing if we don't beat Birmingham. We were all saying the wigan win was a turning point let's not get carried away.

Not for me, we still folded like a deck of cheap cards tonight. Still massive questions about our mentality. to be honest it felt like a surprise win, followed by a depressing loss or inevitable loss on penalties. To win that shoot-out in the mickey mouse cup might just do some wonders for confidence. We havent won a game late on for years. We cant score 3 goals and we cant score penalties. So in a weird way we kind of broke all those hoodoos tonight by scoring 5 penalties in a row!!

Just winning a game seems massive to me, no matter what contortions we had to go through to get there.
Psychologically, another defeat after being two up would have been disastrous. At the very least, we now know we can come out on top even when everything seems to be going against us.
Only the next game will tell us if this is any kind of turning point or not, but tonight, just for once, it feels good.

It’s a huge win. And in a way doing it the way we did could give us a huge confidence boost. Every player ran to Jack at the end. That lads confidence will be booming. Hopefully the lads get in that dressing room and now believe that they can win games. If we can pinch a win Saturday then we may see a huge upturn in our fortunes

When's the last time we lost a shootout? Tbh, we've got a really good record. It means nothing in regards to the 90 minutes and our mental fragility for me.

We're in the next round and we've come back from adversity to win a penalty shootout on their manor. Got to be worth something surely.

I know we lost a 2 goal lead which is no surprise how many goaks we concede, but surely it still takes character and courage to win a shootout. I'm not saying everything is going be OK but we've come out with something tonight and hopefully will now put us a step in the right direction.

Fair enough to say we didn't win in normal time. But we did win the match in the end. That is simply a fact. We've seen countless false dawns over the last few years. We've just been battered there and chucked away a two goal lead against a weakened leeds team. It would be stupid to think we've turned a corner. We need to start actually winning games. I'm gutted we were two nil up and cruising and still fucked it. Why? Because I'm worried about the league. But if I was the manager, in that dressing room I'd be focusing minds on the fact we won the penalties and got over one mental barrier. Holding on to a lead is another one

I’m pleased for Jones, he deserves some luck.

It's often these fine margins that turn seasons around IF they are used correctly. Comparisons with the Wigan game are way off.
Going to Elland Road with the form they're in is tough, even more tough after what we've been through.
To then overcome another mistake by the keeper and to go on and win a shootout where we haven't scored a penalty since god knows when is potentially huge.
We have to use it now and kick on.

Liverpool semi probably, how many do we actually have though? Not to mention the fact our club is synonymous with failing to score penalties right now, you can't fail to acknowledge that unless you're wanting to see things a certain way. That shootout is a credit to the lad's mental strength, not that they have much credit in that regard.

Yes the manager has to focus on the positives but also learn from it. We fucked it up from 2-0 up though didn't we? We didn't win the game, we drew. We went through to the next round after a penalty shoot out because we drew the game. We've all suffered enough and it's nice to just try to enjoy the positives for a change. I understand that.

First twenty minutes if sect half we were reasonably steady. Butland clanger and then it's the Alamo. That's not tactical is it, purely down to Butland.

True, but a lot of them showed tremendous mental fortitude to score a penalty in front of their main stand, should do the whole squad the world of good.

It is for me.
A clean sheet (even if a 0-0) draw at the weekend would be OK.
We then get it together, stick with the 5-3-2 and start grinding it out. People like Duffy and CCV get to the fitness we want and add to the competition and the players just do their jobs. Forget the moaning and groaning and just get on with it.
This squad has enough quality to beat anyone in this league - lets get the good times going again, it's been a while.
