As an overseas supporter, Signal 2 Has been my mainstay since we have gone down and I don't want to jinx anything but how are they getting away with broadcasting both internationally and domestically when the club are telling us you have to pay them to listen (or watch if you calll that stream even watchable). Just been pleased I have access to the matches as I am sure others have. Supporters can listen to Stoke City’s Carabao Cup second round meeting with Leeds United at Elland Road tomorrow (kick-off 7.45pm) via Stoke City +. Due to EFL and FA broadcasting regulations, fans can only listen to Carabao and FA Cup games on club channels. Stoke City + audio packages are priced at £4.50 per month or £45 for the season. www.stokecityfc.com/news/2019/august/Carabao-Cup-tie-listen-live-1/

I think it means you can only listen to it on club channels rather than watch.
Not that you can only listen to it on club channels and not on any other channel.
If that’s makes sense? I had to read it a few times the other week myself.

Right, so it's "on club channels you can only listen" rather than "the only way you can listen is on club channels" Still, related to what Rob says above, I've never understood why BBC Radio Stoke has always cut out right at the time a game starts but Signal 2 broadcasts it freely, no matter what the competition - Prem, EFL, cup, whatever.

Yes that’s what I concluded after reading it a few times the other week! I think it’s BBC radio stoke you can’t listen to on internet radio. I’m not sure as I listen on Signal 2 as I’m normally commuting home on the train so I’m on my phone but I’ve seen people say that on here. But radio stoke should work on a real radio maybe?

BBC policy maybe? I've wondered but I can't possibly see why they'd do that out of choice. Literally just giving their listeners to the commercial competition. Maybe it's just that Signal have negotiated online broadcasting rights and the beeb haven't? But then how come we end up paying the club for the BBC feed, which they then broadcast internationally? All rather confusing.

Yeah there's no problem with the actual radio broadcast, it's the online feed that cuts out.

The last 2 seasons you have been able to listen to BBC Radio Stoke match commentary broadcast free through the Stoke+ match Centre by simply registering free of charge. So now they are charging you to listen to a broadcast that you already pay for if you have a BBC licence which helps to fund BBC local radio. Robbing bastards.

Not sure what's going on ... BBC London seem to broadcast their commentaries via BBC main sport website, no problem .... 2nd class service for the regions I guess?

Five-year-old link below. Very vague but confirms it's about "broadcast rights"... has to be something to do with a public network not being allowed to compete with commercial stations in this way. Still don't understand why we're free to pay the club for the same content though. "The BBC regrets that it is unable to stream football match commentaries on its websites. (The only exceptions are FA Cup matches, and non-league matches.)
Broadcast rights restrict the BBC to transmissions on radio and DAB (digital) radio only... which is why you'll hear that annoying announcement on Saturday afternoons telling you that you can't hear BBC output at that time. Sorry..."www.bbc.co.uk/stoke/radiopages/streaming/faq.shtml#football

The club have only been broadcasting officially this last couple of years I think?

The club should support a local Stoke on Trent radio station not the BBC. This smells of Scholes all over.... The club have obviously signed something with the BBC why have they never given Signal 2 any recognition ? They are there every week and literally the only way some of us can listen to the matches. To not even offer Signal 2 as an alternative to being charged 45 quid a season is robbery and pretty shifty.... As I said this smells like Scholes

They can fuck right off! I prefer to listen to Signal 2 free and support a local radio station.

As an exile I've had to listen to away games online on Signal 2 for a while and it's never been an issue (apart form the commentary being slightly shit), and suddenly they're claiming they don't have the rights...

There is some kind of contractual difficulties between the Beeb and the FA,PL,EFL., etc...
I spend a lot of time in Greece. Exactly the same thing happens when the GrandPrix is on. You can listen to it on BBC in the UK but not abroad.
Stupid and very frustrating.
