So Verlinden didn’t play and Bolton won their first game of the season away at high flying Bristol Rovers. Make of that what you will.... He was injured , got a knock in the Rochdale game . Believe what you want about stats/attitude/mom etc but he is playing VERY well for us , albeit a division below you , can we keep him for the season ? We have some very strange supporters mate who prefer headless chickens over skill

I like Verlinden, and watched him play for Bolton recently he was very good though if I was to be critical he was guilty of overplaying on a few occasions when he should have just whipped a cross in.....

It's likely that the loan will be extended.

It’s these decisions that have made me lose my belief that Jones is the right man Relying on McClean at left back ( he is very lucky Bruno didn’t go imo) Loaning out Verlinden whilst loaning in Duffy Replacing Cameron with Cousins
No doubt that NJ was good at Luton but he’s made some catastrophic mistakes here.

I like Verlinden, and watched him play for Bolton recently he was very good though if I was to be critical he was guilty of overplaying on a few occasions when he should have just whipped a cross in..... Thats a fair point , he is trying too hard even at times when he doesnt need to , however his willingness to attack and impress and his overall enthusiasm is something you dont want to knock out of a kid at this stage in his development . Yes he does need to learn how to choose the easy option when its best but that will come with experience. When the penny drops you have a hell of a player, similar to how Jack Wilshere and Daniel Sturridge did with us when they were kids . A season of first team football even in a lower league could be a great thing for him . I originally thought him dropping down a division was a mistake as he is a marked man and teams are doubling up on him even now , but if he can come through that and still play his natural game then he will come on leaps and bounds. I remember we got a rookie called Jason MacAteer , all the talent in the world , he could ghost past 5 men in midfield up to the edge of the box then fall over his own shoelaces. He went to the world cup in the states in 94 , got dropped for a month after his return and came back as the complete package. Verlinden could be the same , he is very very good.

Can we recall this lad at any point? He's got so much to offer, and is different to anything we have in the squad currently.
If possible, if have him back and on the wing in a shot. Get Vokes and A N Other up top and get some crosses in.

You can always tell if someone has played pro football , because they take the ball on the half turn ( instead of facing the play ) and are half way past their man ,with their first touch .
Except at Stoke
At Stoke , he is the only player who does this !
The only one ,who looks like he has been coached to play at a good level
And he still can't get a game !
Which says more about Stoke than verlinden
I think he will come good , though probably as a classy squad player ( a poor man's shaquiri) rather than a nailed on starter

Just noticed this on Twitter, MON clearly has been doing his homework on Verlinden and possibly our other loanees while he gets to know the players still at the club
Currently loaned out Verlinden, Bauer, Afobe, Souttar, Wimmer, Imbula, Tyson?
On loan with us Carter-Vickers, Hogan , Duffy
His thoughts will also be turning to who we can offload/ who wants to go and who we want to go out on loan from January
Plenty to keep him busy

Seems like MON has been doing his homework just as jeycov has said. Hopefully he'll be back in at Jan. O'Neill did say that everyone who is on the naughty step has a clean slate under him, but it's up to them to take on the task. The current loanees are Verlinden, Bauer, Afobe (Injured), Souttar, Wimmer, Imbula, Tymon. I suspect Tymon, Souttar will stay where they are, they're getting valuable experience. Verlinden possible recall, Afobe out injured. That leaves Bauer, Wimmer and Imbula.
Well you certainly don't get the feeling they want to play for Stoke City anytime soon, but will O'Neill give them a fresh look? Past history shows he shouldn't but he may want this to be HIS slate. If he motivated the two shitehawks, he'd be a miracle worker on the level of Christ himself. Mistakenly labelled labelled Bauer as such, amended to TWO shitehawks! Can't see it happening though, but we certainly won't be getting permanent offers for any of them anytime soon.

Great news he's seemingly going to come back in January. We're almost certainly going to play with wingers now so he needs to be on the bench at the very least.
I'm hoping Tymon has a future also. Yes, he was poor for us in his few games but he's still really young and has taken a big risk in going abroad to get his career up and running again which has proven to be an excellent decision. This is exactly why you loan players out, to play real competitive football which also leads to an improved attitude and confidence... and Ward is wank.

Admittedly i have only seen limited time with Verlinden, but what i have seen, he looks very exciting.
Liking O'Neill more and more by the day

Sense may be about to prevail.
I've said many times by biggest issue with Jones was his treatment of Verlinden. Thank god TP isn't back - he was useless with wingers (etherington excepted) as well.

He brought Lawrence and Pennant to the club and made excellent use of them during his time here. If anything, TP was at his weakest in getting the most out of full backs. First he often seemed to prefer 4 centre backs and second, when he had a specialist full back (like Halls for example) he allegedly forbade them from crossing the halfway line!

He's a poor defender, but I never found exactly what was wrong behaviourwise.

But he'll need a lot of support as there's sections of our crowd who won't forgive him for making youthful mistakes.
