What3words I’d never heard of it until last week. It is a system to pinpoint exactly where you are in the world (land and sea) by mapping the entire planet in to a grid of 10 feet by 10 feet and assigning every square a unique combination of words. Apparently the emergency services are using it to pinpoint where people are when they are actually unable to describe it themselves and even if you are nowhere near a road or recognisable feature, they can locate you to within a foot or three. It was developed by a guy who managed bookings for bands but used to struggle to direct them to exactly which entrance to use at a venue, so thought of and developed this. It sounds pretty good and I’m unaware of any downsides to it. Has anyone here used it? I can’t help thinking it should be more widely known about, or perhaps it is and I’m just too out of touch! Never heard of it before. But if it works, this is an essential application for once!

Just describing where you want to meet someone, or where you are parked for example.
"I'm parked at sock.chimp.able" for example.

It sounds like a fantastic innovation, been hearing a lot of promotuon for it on certain radio stations.
No truth in the rumour that Afobe downloaded the app and was surprised to find it pinpointed his location to the penalty area...

When Diouf uses it, the 3 words always come up as "You.Are.Offside"

Not a downside per se - but since you've got a mobile phone with location enabled; couldn't you just read out your co-ordinates rather than downloading another app and reading out the words it generates from those coordinates? Or you could switch on sharing your location and let them handle it from their end.

Saw this on a news story and me wife and kids downloaded as seems a brilliant idea in terms of pinning a location down in an emergency . Saw a few cars broke down today on rural roads on waybvack from france today and thought how useful app would be.
