There Was never a dull moment when Mickey Thomes was about Stoke City, bless him.
Richie Barker finding him curled up on the club steps fast asleep, after a night on the tiles, before training typical.
cracking player too
that goal against Liverpool ----------
and the best 'wind up merchant' we have ever seen
Never been less than an amazing character and personality before, during and after his football career
and yes, flawed but
god bless you Mickey and a swift recovery for, the world would be a far, far, duller place without the likes of you !

Always put a smile on peoples faces

One of my favourite players and was lucky to meet him a few times when he played for us. I had a posh paid for education in Colwyn Bay and we used to run along the prom a few times every week, to Rhos and back. We used to meet him out jogging fairly regularly and he joined in a kick about on the beach once. As a star struck fan to play football with one of your hero’s is still an amazing memory. Keep fighting and all the best Mickey.

Pretty sure it was Mickey in a home match in his first spell (can’t remember who against) when his sock was absolutely soaked in his own blood, and just played on as if nothing was wrong.

What a character, and I love 'characters'. I really felt for Mickey when I read the article. He's been through some rough, tough times in his life but one thing stands out to me... they say that you judge a man by the friends he has, and that list who were beside him and encouraging him during his illness is amazing. So, if you do read this Mickey, you can add a load more Stoke fans to the list of friends. You were our (for a while) loveable rogue and you gave us some great memories that we'll never forget. Thanks Mickey, and may your God take care of you so you've got many more mischievous years ahead of you. OS doffs flat cap to a legend.

True story me and a few mates were watching Crewe v Stoke midweek game my memory is not great but I think we won 2 nil and we left the ground and found the nearest pub for a pint and within 5 minutes of us getting there he walked in covered in mud and still soaking in sweat and went to the bar and got a pint.

My over-riding memory of Mickey, apart from his full bloodied efforts for Stoke and some great goals, was, upon leaving Edgeley Park one Saturday afternoon, seeing the little man charging down the street full throttle, with some of his N40 mates, looking for a punch up. I think he`d left Stoke at that time but had obviously kept in touch with Jasper & Co.

He was a guest speaker at The Hawthorns for one match when I was on a corporate, and he made no secret of his affection for Stoke City.
Part of a good midfield - was he in there with Sammy Mac and Robbie James, with Mark Chamberlain out wide, or am I mixing my eighties teams up? All good players, but I drank a little more back in those days, so my memory might not be so accurate...

My favourite memory of MT was when he floored Terry Curran (?) with a left hook in front of the Boothen Paddock near to the corner with the Boothen End during a game against Everton... I think
It was so blatant and such a cracking punch that he somehow didnt get sent off!
George Berry did though but we still won 1-0 if memory serves.

Judder floored David Johnson then Chambo scored a cracker. Fantastic player Terry Curran. A real irritant too.

Your memory is probably better than mine but it was back in the days when Stockport fans used to bait us by singing `you`re not famous any more` and, as I recall, used to beat us fairly regularly as well
