Reckon we’ll be a tad better? All depending on the team he plays. If it’s Afobe and Vokes again then Lord help us.

I'm hoping after a bollocking from Jones this week and less pressure away from home and the occasional toxic atmosphere at our ground we'll be more likely to get a result

It definitely won't be an easy game it'll be a carnival atmosphere down at the valley with it being Charltons first home game of the season they'll be looking to inflict further damage on us. Hopefully by Saturday we will have a few new signings and a couple of out goings hopefully Etebo stays if not I fear for our midfield going forward.

I can almost see a similar starting XI as to the QPR game as if to say “make up for that performance that you put in on Saturday”. Hopefully Gregory gets a start, I was really impressed with his contribution on Saturday.

Unless we get some quality in then the same.
We do not have the players to improve dramatically.
Too one paced, no imagination and little flair.
I don’t even think he’ll make many changes. I so much want it to work but I just don’t see it. We have to simply get some pace and power in.

It will be a very interesting game, possibly the battle of the diamonds... as Charlton played it a lot last season.

FWIW I seriously hope we play well as I'm taking my two nippers. The eldest gives not much of a shit about football anymore, but the youngest loves football, still loves Stoke (only just because he's got eyes in his head), and we live a mile from the ground where he's got mates in the home end.

Charlton will have there tails up. They had a respectable win against Blackburn (away as well). It will be a tough one. Fingers cross and “god willing” we can get a result.

I expect him to stubbornly stick with the diamond. Replace Collins with Lindsay and the rest to remain the same. Maybe replace one of Afobe or Vokes with Gregory. But I doubt Campbell will get a place in the starting 11. He might even do something random like put Ince as No.10 and leave Powell on the bench...
I therefore expect us to be worse because it will be Charlton, a recent League One side, and we probably won’t even be able to beat them.

Jones will definitely stick with the diamond, I expect Lindsay to come in for Collins but I reckon the rest of the side will stay the same. Hopefully Jones has got into them and we’ll see a much improved performance.

It's amazing how much stick Allen gets on here but still the vast majority so far on this post name him in their team. Personally I would have him nowhere near our midfield.

I live in Charlton, originally from Stafford so will be going to game as on my doorstep. Went to the QPR game and if there is no improvement then we are in dire straits. Charlton fans down here all gloomy as to how there season looks. They were spanked pre-season and scraped a win away at a very poor Blackburn team last week. Having just come up from League One, they've offloaded a lot and bought in loanees/some average signings, but they've lost Bent, Aribo and Bauer. Arugably some of their best players last year. All their signings League One/Two up and comers, not many tried and tested Championship players in there.

We were supposed to be the best team in the Championship last season, after all the money that was spent, didn't do us much good though did it? Even if we play better than against QPR,is this team good enough to beat Charlton, plus most of the teams in this Division? which is what's required if we are looking to get promoted.

Having coached the team all summer to play the diamond it would be stupid to ditch it after one bad result - if he did that we'd be far more likely to lose. There's nothing random about playing Ince rather than Powell based on the performance on Saturday - Ince had far more impact than Powell. Campbell didn't do anything on Saturday to earn a place - unlike Gregory who made a difference when he came on. I'd prefer him to stick with Collins who had a decent game apart from overplaying on a couple of occasions but if Jones is concerned about him still being a bit rash he's every reason to play Lindsay.

Campbell made more impact that Vokes and Afobe but still I doubt will get on.

This one always looked to be a tougher task than the QPR game so based on what we saw, we have to be much, much better to get anything here. Charlton will fly at us I imagine and if they penetrate that soft centre of ours, we could well crumble. This is a game where I don't want us to be necessarily "better" by playing free-flowing football but better in the sense that we manage the game properly. Nothing stupid in the opening exchanges, nothing that gives them any impetus. We have to play smart on Saturday.
